What to get my nana?

I'm a bit stuk with buying a gift for my nana. Last year she complained that all she got was smellies and sweets, so I'm not wanting to get her these again. She hasn't got enough room for any things like photo frames or ornaments, so was thinking of something she could use. Or a DVD/CD/Book but I don't know what an older lady would be 'in to'. She likes things to do with our town, like books and stuff, but as our town is only small I think she's got everything. And I can't get one of those print offs of her house as our town doesn't seem to appear on any of the maps.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

what about something to do with your towns twin?
A lot of places have european couterpart towns and cities?mostly french and german places?
Maybe researching into the link, how it came about etc?Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I've never heard of our town having a twin, but will look into it, thanks0

this might be a long shot but could you get a disposable camrea and take photos of town sights of interest then go to the library (or on your own pc) and see if you can find some old photos of those places, then stick them all in a book and write any information you can get beside the photos? and also add a little "family tree photo book" inside it? (a few photos of as many family members you can get) it's very thoughtful and shows a lot of time and thought has gone in2 it.official dfw nerd club member no 214
Proud to be dealing with my debts!;)
Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!0 -
like the photos idea - or could you paint a picture of a nice landscape?
Or a photo album of different places within the town? The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
You can buy books with old photographs of the town she lives in. I bought my Grandpa one, and he was thrilled to bits when he discovered a photo of some school boys and he was one of them!
What about a subscription to a DVD rental club? You can set her up a list of films and they'll arrive in the post for her. All she has to do is watch them, then post them back and the next one will arrive. If she wants any additional DVD's added to her list, you can add them on for her. Here I go again on my own....0 -
How about a little hamper of individual sized tins/jsrs/packs of goodies. stuff that she may not treat herself to but would enjoy, eg small pack shortbread, red salmon, tinned prawns, small tins fruit, individual xmas cake, mince pies, nice bar choc, even mini bottle of wine or babycham etc.
Or a birthday book and selection of birthday cards/stamps.
Book token/Dvd token.
Take her out to lunch as her xmas treat - lots of older people would just enjoy "time" from their family.

A friend of mine got a double picture of what a town looks like now and what it did when her relative was born, well ish, don't know if you could get something similar.
I usually get DPs Nana nightwear something she won't buy herself, sees no need to spend the £££. My great grandma we went through her house, figured out what was unsafe or needed replacing one year and went between 5 of us replacing it all. My Nana usually my Mam knows best what she needs and I contribute. We have bought her a tele and all kinds before, all adds up when we chip in.One day I might be more organised...........

Last year I bought my Grandma a stripy wooly hat that was on sale in John Lewis. In the past I have bought her slippers, gloves, a pretty cardigan with beading, satiny pyjamas. My mum bought her an evening type handbag for her to take when she goes on holiday which she does a lot. If you want to buy her a CD maybe some classic swing, rat-pack type stuff or big band? Depends on how ols she is and her personal taste. You could ask her. Maybe ask her about what soirt of stuff she used to listen to or go dancing to when she was young if you want to be a bit more subtle.0
