Cheapest Pic 'n' Mix

If you want something, what is the alternative to paying? Stealing it?
Ordinarliy, I don't bother for the reasons I mentioned earlier. In fact I hadn't bought pic 'n' mix for a good few years. But when I spotted 49p/100g, I did wonder. I know that, by and large, individual packs of sweets work out cheaper than pic 'n' mix. (Good quality ones can be found in supermarkets for 34p/100g, although this does include individual wrappings.) I probably shouldn't be eating sweets anyway. But dangit, I work hard. I'm entitled to a little sugar now and again. More importantly, I can't find those yellow-bellied snakes anywhere outside pick-n-mix.
Anyway, more important matters. I braved the rain to go back to Woolies and cram as much as I could into a small (£1.99) carton. I opted for 7 varieties of sweets, with varying degrees of density and crushability. All in all, I managed to cram 476g into the carton. This gives a price of just under 42p / 100g.
A pound of sweets for £2. Not bad going. If I ever get cravings that digestive biscuits don't cure, I know where I'm going.ben500 wrote:Whilst this post is thorough you have however forgotten to factor in the weight of the weevils, I'm sure this will only amount to a few pennies but nonetheless should be accounted for, unless of course you omitted this as they will however be consumed and could be therefore considered part of the consumable factoring.
Thanks for your sage words on this matter, it was indeed an oversight on my part. I followed your advice and checked carefully for weevils before paying. I can assure you that I am definitely not a weevil man. I do like children, though. Especially if they are of the jelly variety."Peter Pan is 2. Shirley Bassey is 3. Dr Ian Paisley is 4. I prefer to try the softer approach:
Excuse me is it ok to sample? if the response is yes I simply turn round and say
"SHE SAID YES KIDS OFF YOU GO!":rotfl:Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I normally cram in the snakes and laces in the bottom after winding them up tiny, then putting some of the fizzy blue and pink bottles, shov them down a bit more, then anything like smarties goes in afterwards as it fills in the gaps and sinks to the bottom!!
Although Wilkinsons is OK, I find they never have everything in, but Woolworths is the pic n mix king!! I find the £1.99 cartons are fantasic for the cinema too!!!0 -

Until now, the only thing that stopped me giving in was the enormous difference in price between pic 'n' mix and just buying a bag of wine gums, marshmallows and so on.
Today, I noticed my local Wilkinsons is offering such an arrangement for... 49p / 100g. A minute's walk away into Woolworths, I see it offered for 62p / 100g.
Any advance on 49p/100g?
the price has now gone up in wilko's to I think 55p0 -
Remember all the Weigh n Save shops. Mine has closed down now but they used to have loads of sweets in enormous barrels. Are they cheaper places to shop or not? Can't remember the prices per kg. And I used to buy sweets from the stores on the markets when I was a kid. Mmmm, dreaming of chocolate Daz drops and pineapple cubes, Got to go shopping now.....I will be rich :rotfl:0

This reminds me of Peter Kay taking his nan to the cinema where he shouts at her for putting Fudge and Pear Drops into her pick n mix when she should be choosing flumps and other light sweets. :rotfl:0
