How to avoid the year 8 dip? Would this fit in with preparing them in y7 to avoid that? The amount of my lovely girls that discovered make up and boys that year.

Good...turns out I did know the answer to that question then. It's just stupid little things got me doubting myself and my own answers at the minute.

It's head of year 7 I'm going for - although we call it something differently.

Hang on, didn't you say yr7? Actually what is the post you're going for?

Just shows how intelligent and quick thinking courgette is...that question about scratches is clearly a sneaky child protection one, and I missed it.

Also...if its year 7...like michelle says and then also there is the whole question of transition and who manages that, how you manage recruitment, do you have any good ideas for recruitment, how do you assuage parents' fears about bullying and settling in at big school...

Also, just thought of this other classic trap question...how do you improve the attainment of boys...they want to see if you will fall in the trap of just talking about boys when really its obv you need to talk about using a balance of male and female scientists, a range of teaching and learning styles, even though research has now pretty much discredited it - the whole visual/auditory/kinaesthetic balance, not reliance on too much writing - realise you have limited influence over this as HoY. So this question is equal opportunities in poor disguise IYSWIM?

I'm getting really excited about this job, can you tell?!!

  • Puppy is crying in her sleep, bless.

Bought some triangular pen grips for DD2 today on ebay (£3) and was going to buy the DDs crocs for the summer, so useful for poolside and running in and out of the garden. But the new crocs have stripes on them, which is wrong in the DDs opinion, and then I showed them all the colours and they were overwhelmed and we ran out of time and had to go to school.

I am closer to being full term pregnant today than I have ever been...keep thinking "this is it" but then it isn't. DH has his probate interview tomorrow, so looks like he will be going to that.

  • Thankyou...well I think I would like baby to hang on now until Thurs, or at least Weds night. Probate interview is 40 mile round trip and they have a looong waiting list. Contractions or whatever have gone off since two dog walks, one at the wrong time and one at the right time (11.50 reads as ten to eleven when one is pregnant apparently!).

You make me chuckle. So you walked the dog at 10:50 and then 11:50?

Baby staying put vibes for you.

And forgot to say yesterday well done for working out how to add a doggy piccie, and she is continuing to be very cute.

Yep, d'oh! She has conked out now, though. Thanks for the kind comments, I realise its a bit like babies, one's own are always more interesting...but in the two walkies she got to meet another dog - he's abit of an elder statesdog and after 5 minutes he went back in his house, I thought he had just had enough of puppies, but he emerged a minute later and he had brought her a slipper:rotfl:

Soooooo cute. My little one is being a star out on walks...she just follows me everywhere and we run and play.

Right...so tackling underachievement in boys is a double edged sword. Got it....as for tackling the year 8 dip...I didn't realise there was one! I've never heard it talked about. Ideas please.

My God - I'm feeling really really thick now. I've been full of raising achievement and removing barriers type things. Hmmmm

  • Those are good things to be full of!! I don't know about year 8 dip, maybe its cos they're not new, they're not doing key stage tests, they're not on an exam course.

We don't see that so much, but they quite often can go back a bit starting year 7.

Lots of common sense needed here, and I expect for your data task...if they dip in year 8 because nothing special is happening , then introduce something special...a competition just for them, a cross curricular thing with prizes maybe?

Going back in year 7, the key is effective transition so all their attention isn't on feeling stressed (Maslow's Hierarchy again) and they can concentrate on learning...

Honestly, though, are you getting an early night or your brain will be frazzed tomorrow?
