Need a loan to go travelling
Hi all
I would appreciate some advise on getting a loan. My girlfriend and I are going travelling and need a loan to do so. We estimate we will need around £10,000 each.
Does anyone have any tips. Should we tell the bank we want to go travelling or should we say we need for another purpose.
What bank is likely to be best to get a loan from, as I currently bank with Santander and they don't seem to be advertising for loans at all, just savings.
Thank you kindly and regards
Hiro

first of all you work out how you are going to pay it back, no one will lend to you unless you are returning to a guaranteed source of income.
standard advice is a) save up or b) find a way to make it a working holiday.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
PLEASE go into the bank and tell them you need a loan to go travelling! £20 says they'll still be laughing as they close the door behind you! They can't have what you haven't got can they? tell them that and if they say otherwise pretend to be an owl or something.0

Give me 15 mins to get the popcorn in....and then let it begin!0

In fact i'll just surmise what everyone is going to say;
No one will lend you money to go travelling
No one will lend you the money unless you can pay it back
Can you pay it back?
Borrowing money that you KNOW you wont be able to pay back is illegal
Lying about income etc on a loan application is also illegal
Good luck. They can't have what you haven't got can they? tell them that and if they say otherwise pretend to be an owl or something.0 -
Do you intend repaying this loan at all?
You can't have any money now or you wouldn't be needing loan.
There aren't many jobs which allow you to take loads of time off whilst they keep paying you, if they did, you wouldn't need a loan.
There aren't many jobs which will hold your position open whilst you go off travelling so it's a fair assumption you have no job to come back to.
Did you decide to do this after several beers??0 -
!!!!!!!g hell..you started without me!0

Hey, just thought of a good one, why don't you stay put and get jobs? how on earth would you be able to afford to pay back twenty grand between you? live in the real world.0

Hi all
Thank you all for the advice.
I am currently working full time as is my girlfirend who is a science teacher. She has a contract until the end of the year at her secondary school.
My job has allowed me 6 months off to travel and my position within the company will be safe when I return. My girlfreind will not have any issues getting a job, as her position is in demand at all times.
I was hoping to find a about a bank that is a relative easy lender, if anyone is aware of one.
I have debts of around £3000 currently, and my better half has no debts.
Thank you all once again.
Kind regards

Where on earth are you planning on travelling that will cost you £20k?
If you need to borrow the money you cannot afford to go.
How are you planning on servicing the £23k of debts for the 6months you will be travelling and will have no income?
No bank is 'easy' enough to lend you this if they are aware of all the facts.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
