you don't need to use the steam option on them - it's optional but apparently 'sets' the style for longer (although i've never needed to i have used this setting previously and it's worked as well as without!) HTH x

Thanks very much, are they easy to work?

Mia, i'm going in tomorrow for straighteners for my mum hopefully as it's their Christmas night, can I ask, did you find out whether you have to use the steam function and if you have used them already are they easy to use?

Hi NEH....i finished up buying the Reminton Pearl..it was a hard choice between Babyliss (red ones) and these..looked on Boots website and looking at the reviews someone said the steam function on Babyliss was a bit of a pain so opted for pearl...tried these and they do a good job and they don't snag my hair like my old ones..
have a look at the reviews and see what you think cos a lot do like the Red Babyliss....
ps generous discount at Boots on both at the mo....

IMO you made a good choice- I had the red babylis straighteners but they were just too bulky for my hair. They may have worked well for very long hair but mine is always above my shoulder and I was unable to read the roots which gave me strange results- kinks at the roots, sleek elsewhere. They did keep my hair straight for the whole day (but not day 2). Not tried the Remington myself, am hankering after the Sedu or GHD and saving up amazon vouchers to do so!
  • the steam is relatively simple - slightly more simple to the earliest (!) models which only really worked with the steam circa y2k!

but i hardly use it and find it works brilliantly without it - i have GHDs and i definitely prefer my 2 pairs of Babyliss!

    What's the difference between,

I thought they might essentially all be the same but then i noticed price differences and it's got me wondering....
  • probably just the designs! - it's coming up to that magical time of year and they want as many fingers in the pies as possible :rotfl:

    Probably! :rotfl:

I did think the purple ones look thinner but that might be my eyes this morning! :rotfl::rotfl:

Well i've found out that the purple ones (elegance) apparently have no steam function on them but cost more but I think they are the newest kid on the block and therefore more sleek and longer apparently.

wondered if there is any good one's out there but not as pricey!!..thanks,,

I recently managed to pick up Ice Diamond straighteners down from £99 to £29 at TK MAXX on-line. My daughter wanted GHD's which I said I would buy her for Christmas but bought the ID's which I said I would use if they were no good for her or she didn't like them.

She is more than happy with these, the fact they have an on/off switch, are temperature adjustable, they are also dual voltage for holidays and they straighten her hair quicker. She has told me not to bother with the GHD's now.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • I use GHDs. I tried some cheaper sets about two years ago and ended up just wasting my money on straighteners that just couldn't deal with my hair, so I gave in a bought GHDs. I have very long hair which is not in great condition and is wavy (which I hate!) and the GHDs are amazing for me. The thing that really made me think I'd made the right decision was when they broke down, I called customer services, filled in a short form and sent them back and two days later they apologised and sent me a new pair even though I hadn't registered them at the time of purchase. My new ones are guaranteed for three years which is brilliant. Having read this thread though it seems that straighteners have advanced to GHD level lately though, so if I was buying now, I'd check reviews and personal recommendations and would no doubt end up buying something as good or better than GHDs.
