I've had a pay rise...

but it's only an extra £500 a year (although anything is better than nothing) - will I actually get to see any of it or will it all get eaten by tax/pension/student loan etc?

congratulations on your payrise. I got one too recently and found this website to work out how much better off I would be.

so was it good news? I know sometimes when I work more hours the amount extra I actually get paid is disappointing.

  • Congratulations skint monkey! Sorry to jump on your thread, but does anyone know what difference it makes if you are married or not?

I don't think it makes any difference as I have just checked my salary with the married box ticked and unticked... no difference whatsoever!

I don't know the answer to this exactly, but I got married in August, so would be very interested to know.
  • Assuming I've put the details in directly (?) I should be £62.81 a month better off!! That is also taking into account like my parking permit and union membership deductions and I made sure I ticked the student loan box.

Not bad. An extra £50 to chuck at my debt.

Are you sure?? If it's £500 a year before tax then that works out to be £41.66 extra a month before the taxman takes his cut?? ;)
