  • We don't have gas, it's all electric....

We do have mobiles but they are PAYG and we top up probably a tenner a month each and thats it.

I have around £850 in my savings so i guess i could stop saving now and paying that extra off our debts.

As for things like cars, birthdays, xmas etc, it all comes out of my wage, hence i cannot get out of my overdraft.

My husband pays off his loan, as it's his debt, might sound a bit mean but i'd rather help elsewhere.

The petrol is low as i walk too work most days (only 2.5miles) and my husband has a round trip of about 11miles. We do have two cars which I think is a bit silly and we really should sell one.

Contact barclays and find out how long the loan has left to go. At least it will stop everyone guessing also check out the terms and conditions - they should be able to give you a copy I would assume as you're still paying them.

Can you pay it off early? I'm asking as if you could overpay some of the money you'd be saving by not putting money in your savings account perhaps you could knock the term down a bit?

    hi sammyjo,

why dont u have serious look at the 'matched betting thread' on the 'gambling introductory loopholes' forum. its easy free money at no risk. it takes a week or 2 to truely understand it, but there is the potential there to make £1000's! ive been doing it for 3 weeks ish and have made over £300. u can start with a kitty of £75 and have £150 'in your hands' within 15 mins! worth a look to anyone struggling in debt imo, and anyone who isnt! hope to have helped....

Is the savings money £850 yours or joint? as if he's got some savings as well you maybe could throw a chunk at the loan?

Quidco? Also see can I make £1024 before Christmas as they are coming up with ideas to make free money.

  • Thanks for all your advice.

Think we need to bite the bullet, sell a car and stop saving.

Will definitely talk to Barclays too.

    There is your problem.
  • Don't really understand why me saying i wont pay off my husbands loans as it's his debt is my problem.

I help out everywhere else, like paying more into the house, helping with his credit cards, petrol for his car, servicing etc. and he wouldn't let me pay towards his loan anyway as it's him who says he sees it as his debt.

  • I would definitely sell one of the cars. Two cars is a luxury unless you need them to get to work and you obviously don't.

Not only would you get some cash in your pocket, but you would save on all the running costs. Could all go towards the debts, couldn't it?

Yes and stop saving, you have enough for most emergencies and this could all help to shave years off your debt free date.

I cannot understand why married couples say things like "It is his debt".
I think you would be better looking at all the debts as BOTH of yours and prioritising that way.
My wife had debts when I married her, but not for one second did I class them as her debts, as soon as we were married they became OUR debts and we paid them off.
  • I'm sorry if i've offended you by saying it's his debt, it wasn't meant to offend anyone.

The loan is the only thing that is seen by both him and myself as his debt, everything else is shared.

Please don't judge me just cause we see it as his debt.
