Shaver sharpening !!

SAVE MONEY!! Electric shavers can be sharpened, using diamond paste or carborundum paste. The greedy manufacturers expect you to buy a new head, costing £15 to £30, so they dont tell you they can be sharpened.
Googling "diamond paste" gives some sites for buying the stuff, for about £3 to £12. Has anyone tried this ? The stuff I used to use came together with my Dad's shaver (around 1955 !!!!)
I just need to know what grade of diamond paste to buy ( eg 3 microns or perhaps 1 micron ?
This info will help EVERYONE who uses electric shavers

One company for diamond paste is rdgtools.co.uk
I've just had an email from them; they "dont know" which grade is suitable....
anyway I've ordered some 1 micron and some 1.5 micron paste...
it should sharpen up my older shavers

WOW !! It came today, excellent service.
AND it works!! Using the 1-micron diamond paste, I mixed in a little washing-up liquid ( so it's easier to wash off later.)
Spread it with a finger while the shaver is running (mine are linear types) for 30 secs or so. It all goes black; that shows some metal is being removed.
Then wash in warm water.
GOOD LUCK it will save you a fortune

Tell me if you've tried this (or if you have a better way!)

Haven't most (rotary) shaver heads been 'self sharpening' for quite a long time? My Phillips is over 20 years old and still works pretty much the same as it ever did.0

I don't think they will self-sharpen without a sharpening paste. I have had major improvements to my linear shavers with the diamond paste. I only knew to try it cos my Dad's shaver had a little tube of stuff, with instructions too, (about 1960) When it ran out, I started googling and found the companies selling the diamond paste. Of course, the shops nowadays expect you to buy another shaver; they won't have heard of sharpening them !!0

agreed... DH is now 41, got his phillishave from his Mum for his 16th birthday, we bought a new set of heads for it about 13 years ago and it hasn't needed new ones again so far...
So one set in 25 years isn't too bad really!:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
