I was cutting up a cake for dessert, and I wanted to cut it into three..hubby informed me that you cant do that equally......that it would need to be 4 ...25% cos that divides equally by 100....no matter what I say, he says he's right.....please can someone come up with a simple way for me to explain this to him....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

He is correct ,
100% divided by 3 is 33% But you still have to share that last pesky 1% by 3 and you will always have a bit over!!
One piece is 33.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333 you get the idea %0 -
so if the cake has a circumference of 36 cm, and you cut it at 12, and 24...you wouldn't get 3 equal slices ??? hmmm i'm not convinced.0

If you cut the cake in half , 2 pieces , half each piece , you have 4 pieces
8, 16 , 32 . 64 . 128 256 512, etc none of these numbers can be divided by 30 -
If the cake was straight, and measured 9 cms.....you could have 3 equal pieces......in that case 9 is equal to 100%......still not convinced.0

Can't you use fractions instead of percentages, so cut it into thirds.Sell £1500

A circle is 360 degrees, which is equally divisible by 4 or 3 or by whatever you want to divide it by. If you want to cut a cake in 3 you can use a protractor (one of those semicircle plastic things you get in a school matchs set), cut a straight line from the outside to the centre, measure 120 degrees from this line, cut there and repeat. You should end up a with a cake perfectly divided in 3. This should prove nicely that your hubby is WRONG and he cannot have the extra quarter! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Couldn't have put it better myself! But rather worried that ANYONE can't grasp this very simple primary school concept of fractions!Jane_Blackford wrote: »A circle is 360 degrees, which is equally divisible by 4 or 3 or by whatever you want to divide it by.
