Hello everyone . Welcome to the weekly spend challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her around last year

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x

Good luck everyone.

    Afternoon budgeteers,

I am visiting family this weekend so will not be bad until late tonight so I am taking the opportunity to set up the thread when I can.

I was green last week :j I am going for £50 this week and if I make it I will start reducing it week by week. As I am away until late tonight I am starting my weekly budget from Monday.

I hope you are all having a nice weekend. I have updated the first post, let me know any other results or pledges.

  • This morning I found a ten pound note in my old handbag. I was very excited and then calmed down and told myself it might be because today is my MOT. I have £80 saved up for my MOT. So I made a deal with myself - if the MOT cost over £80 then the £10 had to go towards that. If it was under £80 I could add it to my personal spending money.

I went to a shopping centre:

    80p on a magazine
99p on toe separators (you should have seen my husbands face when I tried to explain to him what they are for!)
    £1.79 on deodorant
£2.99 on a box of 10 hallmark cards
£12.99 on a birthday present for my cousin

I think I am beginning to see a pattern in my spending. I am not really guilty of very expensive purchases (apart from the present) but I am in great danger of three-pounding myself to death.

I was going to buy wool to knit christmas presents with and then I realised - I had nearly spent all my money! So I drove home.

Luckily my car passed it's MOT first time and it came in at under £60.

I am keeping the £20 in savings towards a service next month and the £10 is going into my personal spending money.

Then I did a thing I am not proud of. I spent £2.98 on cake and pudding (to celebrate the passing of the MOT!) I am sharing them with my husband but it is funny how my brain doesn't seem to recognise spending when it is under £3.

Sorry for the long post but today has been an insightful day for me!
