CCJ's

I've no idea if this is the correct forum, but I'd like some advice please.
My friend has been saving for a house for 10 years. Living in shared accomodation now with shared bills. The guy in charge of the water bill stopped paying it, hid the letters from the other guys and then hid the letters from the courts. Now my mate has two CCJ's and a zero credit rating. What can he do?

Was the water bill just in this other guy's name and everyone else paid their share when the bill arrived? If so, the CCJ should just be in his name as well, as he's the one responsible for the bill.

If I remember correctly, all occupants of a shared property are equally liable for the whole bill? No matter whose name is on the actual bill?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Both their names are on the bill.0

Your friend is legally jointly liable for the whole bill.
As such, it is/was his responsibility to make sure that it was paid. Trusting someone else to make sure that happens is probably not a good enough excuse. You still remain liable.
The CCJ? Is that in joint names? Or just against your friend?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
