Joint bank account with ex Husband

I have a joint bank account with my ex husband (Lloyds TSB). Me and my husband had an overdraft of £600. We separated in August 2006 and i notified the bank of the separation and stopped my salary going in and anything coming out of the account. My husband agreed to pay £20 a month, but stopped paying this. I was informed by my solicitor to not make any payments as if i had paid £300 and my husband didn't pay the other £300, then i would have to repay my husbands as well.
Is there anything i can do to come to an arrangement with the bank to transfer a debt of £300 to my solo account and take my name of the joint account and leave my husband to pay his £300. Would this happen even if my husband agreed in writing to do this.

Please give me good advice.

You are both liable for the debt, all of it, not half each,

If no one pays it both your credits will be trashed.

With a joint account you are both joint and severely liable for the debt.

Thats as good as advice as you'll get Im afraid.

You should have made arrangements at the time with your then husband to take your name off the joint account.

More advice, sack your solicitor. He doesnt know what he is talking about.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

From CCCS. They may be able to give more advice.

Have you double-checked with the bank that they didn't remove you from the joint account when you initially enquired?

And have you checked your credit rating and asked for a dissociation? I.e formalising that you are no longer financially linked (you'll only be able to do this if the bank did separate you from the account when you informed them of your separation)?
