Hi. I just wanted to let you know about how my attitude has changed since my LBM last month.
On Wednesday I had a missed call on my mobile from my Provident agent. I called him back as I thought there may be something wrong but all he wanted was to offer me a loan for £800 plus £608 interest:eek::eek::eek: to pay off the loan I have and give me £XXX in my hand. Now, a few months ago all I would have heard is "cash in your hand" and jumped at the chance but instead I said "No thanks, I'm aiming to pay this one off as quickly as possible". And then when he came on Friday as usual to collect I paid a bit extra:D
I was quite cross at the way they do this, offering more debt as you get the balance down, but of course I see that is how they make money. Now every Friday what ever is left in my purse will go towards paying this off quicker.
I'm so proud of myself! Its only a drop in my huge debt ocean but I felt a real pride at saying No!
When I was still in ostrich mode I even looked at payday loans and can't explain how glad I am that I never went down that route. I was in Barclays paying off the last of my water arrears:T and the woman at the next window was almost in tears as she had had all her wages taken by a payday loan company even though she thought she had an arrangement with them. The bank couldn't help her of course but I felt so sorry for her and relieved for myself. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but we were standing very close and she wasn't being very discreet about it.:o

Well done sofababe, for resisting Provident's attempts to keep you in the high interest debt cycle. :T
I was having a look at the Provident website the other day, there have been a few posts about them recently and one of the saddest things on there (apart from their interest rates !) was a customer testimonial from a man who said....
"I had my first Provident loan at 18, I'm now 43, so I think that's a good indication of customer satisfaction"
I dread to think how much of his money he has given to Provident over the years!
You have very good reason to feel proud of yourself! :T:T:T"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
Well done sofababe, I also have provident debt, two loans to the tune of 2500:eek:. I too want these paid off as soon as possible.Do I need this or just want it.
