What was the worst thing to happen to you after bankruptcy?

I am just wondering, it seems inevitable that this is where we are heading, just trying to get hold of a charity to make sure that we are doing the right thing.
In the meantime I am thinking, just how bad can it get?
Warts and all, what was the worst part of going bankrupt? I really need to know how bad it can be so that we can be more prepared for our journey ahead.
Thanks in advance x

The most honest answer I can give is that NOTHING that has happened post bankruptcy for me has come even close to the hellish things I went through pre bankruptcy. I made myself ill worrying about my face to face meeting with the OR and it was actually a completely liberating experience.
The feeling of having no debt, and no pressure has honestly made me feel like I could take on the world.

ermmm....let's see, ermmmm, nope, can't think.
Seriously though, I think it is more that you have to tie up all the loose ends, which you are led to believe you can walk away, but the reality is you can't there is still a lot to do. however, each step is another thing ticked off IFSWIM.0 -
if br is the right thing for you, then even the worst aspects are better than pre-br
insurance can be difficult to find, you might end up paying more and you need to read the small print. a price i'm willing to pay though
perhaps the biggest downside for me is now that i'm looking to change jobs (and am in the financial sector) i'm very conscious of applying for jobs then getting turned down for the br. i've just got to accept that though and will probably be looking for a new career path.
considering how things were pre-br i would still choose br again faced with the same circumstances
you need to speak to a debt charity and make sure this is the right route for you, there may be alternatives x0 -
I've never heard any negative things from clients, other than the actual BR hearing to be rather scary!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Ummmm the worst thing? I have only been BR since July and that was on the back of what my ex OH {of 23 years had made me} regardless of that fact, in my situation, I am in no different a position as to before, I still have the same incomings and outgoings {my outgoings would have been very different if I had known about them! In which case if I had I am in a very much better position, if you see what I mean?} I had to track down my debt rather than vice versa. However at some point in the future it would have come back to bite me on the bum!
Despite the fact I am no better off financially I can sleep better at night and that in turn makes me a better mum to my kiddies than I would have been.
as an aside the ex OH will get what is coming to him for sure at some point for all the lying and deception but hey, that is not now my problem but his si I guess what I am saying is that it was all worse before BR at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel {although it may be a long tunnel in my case:D}
Good luck MCDeep doubts, deep wisdom, small doubts, little wisdom..............0 -
i went BR in June and it was such a relief to not have to deal with the creditors anymore - you get to the stage where you really don't want to see any post on the doormat!
I think the worst thing was telling my immediate family because its like BR is a dirty word with a stigma attached to it but i knew that i'd not got into the situation by going on expensive holidays or buying loads of shoes or something it was just a series of unfortunate circumstances.
If your debt situation is one of the things you constantly think about and it factors into every decision you make then the debt is really affecting your life and you'll feel so much better to be free of it!
There are lots of us who have gone BR on this forum and we're all still here and can now get on with living!
Good luck :0)0 -
I went BR in December and was discharged last week. There are some things we found difficult, as someone mentioned already insurance is higher, and I can't get a phone contract (have had to go PAYG as we moved to somewhere my old contract didn't have a signal). We also moved into social housing, and would really like to move out (very bad decision in hindsight), but can't get into private renting as they credit check!
All in all though, as many have said, it's nothing like the grief we were getting when in debt and unable to pay. The only thing I would say is read this forum to death, take all the advice you can get and make sure you are well prepared before you start the process.
Good luck,
Tig. x0 -
The worst thing...admitting it to myself! but its was still the best thing to do in my situation.
Good things are numerous, but i hope i've helped my DD to understand how debt can cripple you and affect your whole life. If she only learns that one lesson from me, then it was the best one i could have taught her (apart from staying away from horny little men..don't drink too much...don't drive too fast..don't do drugs..etc etc)
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
the worst thing for me was my dear little cat got run over she was only 2 "and still miss her now"0
