Have to say I'd choose JL against Comet every time. Why not go in to the JL store, find out everything you need to know about the item then order it at JL online and get the £15 off over £75 spend.0

Pottymouth wrote:Could I ask how you get an extra years warranty by using Nationwide card? If you buy today - you get 5 yrs with J Lewis (through till 2011) - are you saying Nationide will then cover you for a 6th year (through to 2012)?
Thanks for the clarification. Potty.
Nationwide offer an extra years warranty for electrical goods bought using its credit card.
Last time I did this was in 2004 but should still work. I bought a Panasonic camcorder, JL gave me an invoice which stated it had a 2 year guarantee. I phoned the Nationwide extended warranty hotline and they asked me to send proof it was 2 years. So I sent a photocopy of the invoice and hey presto my camcorder was covered until 2007.0 -
i bought a Panasonic PX600 from JL recently and got it pricematched with empire direct. Excellent customer service.0

Perhaps we should start a JL Price Match thread??? Could be very fun! I have done a few price matches at JL, it takes a lot of work and it would be great if there was an opportunity to share the information with others.Anorther tip for JL in Oxford street is to use the website https://www.buyersandsellersonline.co.uk . This is an online retailer that gives very competitive prices on white electrical goods but they also have a very small shop in the Goldhawk road that sells the goods. As this is a local store to JL Oxford street ( within 5 miles ) you can do a pricematch with JL and effectivly ask them to match against teh internet price but get all the benefits of JL service.Could I suggest you have a peek at the AV forum guide for John Lewis Price Matching? I am not sure if I am allowed to post links to other forums - but it's definetly worth a go. You can find it here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=375065
Does anyone know of anymore?0 -
Just bought a dishwasher from JL. It was £100 more expensive in Currys and £50 more in Comet both of these companies tried to sell me extended warranties when the thing came with a 5 year full manufacturers one! JL was the only store that pointed that out.
Dixons refused to deliver to my area (South East).
JL did have problems with delivery also, but it was the way that they handled it that wins applause. I told them I would not be in and that my wife would be in from 13:30 to 15:00 then 15:30 onwards.
No problem. We can deliver in the PM. They arrived in a JL van at 19:25 (5 minutes before the allotted time and were very polite, putting the thing exactly where my wife wanted it.
Between order and delivery they kept me informed every two days of the lead time (it was a difficult to get hold of model at the time).0 -
seeing as though i work for JL its nice to hear all these kind words!
Anyway more to the point, i have worked in the Audio and TV department and because we're not on commission then i doubt the warranty trick would work..:o
As a rule of thumb also i cant give discounts on "perfect stock" but if you can find anything wrong with the item or if you buy a display item,(even if its perfect) ask for 10% off...you'll often get it..

If I went to JL with this they should match it and also keep the 2 year warranty deal right?
Afraid not, John Lewis only price match with 'conventional shops' not membership clubs.TokyoJoe wrote:I dont' know if this would still work but I would personally go to Tottenham court road and find the model that John Lewis stock and walk around until I had found the best price. Take the name and telephone number of the store and then go to JL Oxford Street and do a price match.
John Lewis price match promise only applies if the lower priced shop has the price displayed. Most Tottenham Court Road stores don't have prices displayed and you have to ask.
Full terms of the price match guarantee are here -
