Perhaps we should start a JL Price Match thread??? Could be very fun! I have done a few price matches at JL, it takes a lot of work and it would be great if there was an opportunity to share the information with others.I :heart2: Waitrose0

photome wrote:Why would you want an extended warranty when JL offer 2 years ?
To use it as a method for haggling the item price down, then cancel the warranty soon as possible... I believe they make more on their warranty sales than on the product itself so are keen to do this... I also believe that you have every right to cancel it and they have no right to ask for anything more when you do...
Like I said earlier, you'd think company's would have twigged on this by now, but if it still works I think it's worth a shot
Again, any input very welcome,
Thanks0 -
Ok I just rang costco and it seems they sell it for nearly £50 cheaper than JL!!
If I went to JL with this they should match it and also keep the 2 year warranty deal right?
I'm enjoyin the hunt now!0 -
Ok maybe not...
Is Costco like Macro and similar where you need somekind of membership card?0 -
I dont' know if this would still work but I would personally go to Tottenham court road and find the model that John Lewis stock and walk around until I had found the best price. Take the name and telephone number of the store and then go to JL Oxford Street and do a price match. I suspect JL either have exclusive bundled deals that would be difficult for Totenham court road to match because they add in some sort of extra that JL will argue is not a like for like match. May be worth a try though , we saved about £200 on a laptop using this method some years ago. What was strange was that when JL phoned teh Totenham ct rd retailer they were actually offered £100 cheaper than they had quoted face to face with us..Be Kind0

Wish I was near and knew where Tottenham court road was...
I'm off now to sweet talk a JL sales person
I'll let ya know how it goes!0 -
Hi Tottenham court road is in central London and quite famous for small electrical shops that will haggle on price. Anorther tip for JL in Oxford street is to use the website https://www.buyersandsellersonline.co.uk . This is an online retailer that gives very competitive prices on white electrical goods but they also have a very small shop in the Goldhawk road that sells the goods. As this is a local store to JL Oxford street ( within 5 miles ) you can do a pricematch with JL and effectivly ask them to match against teh internet price but get all the benefits of JL service.Be Kind0

I don't think they do deals. Go with JL. They also give an extra year warranty free too.0

Hi there,
Could I suggest you have a peek at the AV forum guide for John Lewis Price Matching?
I am not sure if I am allowed to post links to other forums - but it's definetly worth a go.
You can find it here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=375065
I am after a Plasma TV (just have to get up off my a** and do the research and then buy it!) and so the guide may lean towards plasmas - but the principles are the same for any electrical goods.
If the AVforum is correct - some of what has been posted above may not be correct.
Let us know how you get on.
Good Luck, Potty.0 -

Although they no longer do internet price match, they will still match retailers with a bricks and mortar store. I have got them to price match digitalpoint and krishav (they have same prices instore and online). JL price matched without a problem.
I have bought a television, vacum cleaner and a camcorder using JL price match promise. I always pay with my nationwide credit card and get an additional years warranty on top of the 2 year (5 for television) that JL give as standard.
I had a problem with 2 Dyson cleaners (one for me one for a relative) I had bought from JL. They were out of waranty but it only took 2 emails to explain the problem and as a gesture of goodwill they paid for the replacement parts which cost nearly £70.
Could I ask how you get an extra years warranty by using Nationwide card? If you buy today - you get 5 yrs with J Lewis (through till 2011) - are you saying Nationide will then cover you for a 6th year (through to 2012)?
Thanks for the clarification. Potty.0
