Costco is a good option also. prices should be better than Jlewis and great customer service. The store warranty is 6 months and then the manufacturer warranty kicks in. DELL have plenty of deals and if you buy with a at home next business day warranty then it works fine.

JL ARE very professional, reputable, and customer focused.
I went into the Edinburgh JL on Monday to buy a printer. They don't keep them in store but at the warehouse 2 miles away.

When I asked if they could send one to the store & I'd pick it up later in the week they said that I had to pick it up at the warehouse.

Guess what, they lost the sale.

JL are my number one choice when it comes to buying electrical items.

Although they no longer do internet price match, they will still match retailers with a bricks and mortar store. I have got them to price match digitalpoint and krishav (they have same prices instore and online). JL price matched without a problem.

I have bought a television, vacum cleaner and a camcorder using JL price match promise. I always pay with my nationwide credit card and get an additional years warranty on top of the 2 year (5 for television) that JL give as standard.

I had a problem with 2 Dyson cleaners (one for me one for a relative) I had bought from JL. They were out of waranty but it only took 2 emails to explain the problem and as a gesture of goodwill they paid for the replacement parts which cost nearly £70.
  • lol @ the fight...

Costco eh? Will have a look...

Thanks for all the input :)

    Hi all,

Stumbled across this site today researching haggling tips because I've not tried it for a long time but I'm about to make a big purchase...

I'm buying a new laptop but the only places that seem to sell it are Comet and John Lewis... for the same price (apart from Comets online price which is £50 cheaper)

Having read through the forums I've been totally put off buying from Comet and it seems they wouldn't haggle AT ALL anyway... So...

Is John Lewis a good place to try haggling (could I get it down £50 to match comets online price?)?

I was hoping that comet would just sell for their internet price instore and then also be willing for some warranty haggling and extra items... but it seems this company has absolutelly no intention of making sales...

Am I better off trying John Lewis?

Thanks very much in advance for any input :A

JL is a very good company - Comet are a very SH**E company - nuff said - even if it was 50% more in JL than Comet, id still buy it JL after my one experience of the sorry excuse for a company called Comet

Comet have dreadful customer service - 4 years ago i bought a chest freezer from Comet - took them a total of 6 months to sort the mess they caused and not even an apology or compo - so, i vowed never to shop there again and yes i have not been there since, nor has the wife

Another good source to buy kitchen electronics is the Euronics franchise operation

  • Thanks very much guys :)

Does anyone know anymore about JL's policy on price reduction when an extended warranty is sold?

Determined to get this as cheap as possible because as of Sunday I'm a student!

Why would you want an extended warranty when JL offer 2 years ?
