My 5 and a half year old has spotted this made for kid's knitting machine on the TV ads http://www.amazon.co.uk/Character-Options-07525-Knitting-Machine/dp/B0001RFCI2/ref=sr_11_1/026-3938694-5921238?ie=UTF8
It has really mixed reviews on Amazon - 2 bad, i good. I just wondered if anyone had personal experience of one of these? Would it be a waste of £20?
PS I know a set of chunky knitting needles would be a more MSE way to go but I don't trust my 2 and a half year old anywhere near sharp implements!

my DD had one for christmas last year and it really isn't worth it.
It's like a giant french knitting machine, it's really difficult to get the knitting even - loads of holes
she is much better at normal french knitting

i quite like the one i got for 6 dd for xmas last year....it was a bargain for £12 pound...though i wouldnt pay £20 for it.....it can be alittle tricky at first but once you get the hang of it, its quite amazing....i guess if you turn it too fast it can get knotty and can get tedious untangling at times...so you have to be steady with it.....the plus side is that it doesnt need batteries and wool is cheap to buy....but remember as with all toys the novelty wears of after a while and it may just become a dust collector in your cupboard.....
so get one cheap if you can otherwise spend your £20 on a day out...0 -
hi, we have one stuck in our top cupboard, when we started using it, it just tangled really easily. obviously, someone more competent at knitting than us would probably be ok, but still, it seems a lot of hassle! (sorry!)0

Thanks for all your stories. It sounds like pretty much a thumbs down at least for an absolute beginner. A shame because it does sound a good a good idea in theory.
Think I will try and come up with some excuse before xmas so she doesn't get her hopes up ie only for 6 and over - she is a stickler for rules!
I do have a knitting doll (french knitter) that I bought ages ago for when she was older so that could be finding it's way into the stocking instead!
Thanks again everyone.0
