Yes here I am a year down the line giving people advice on their SOA’s/court dates and chats with the OR and I have still not been made BR myself.
The past year has been a real eye opener for me and I can say as everyone who has been in a similar situation that it is a real roller coaster and full of different emotions.
I joined here a year ago when I was in a complete tizz and did not have a clue which way to turn, after some advice from here and a visit to my local CAB and also talking to the National Debtline, I set myself up on my own DMP which for the past year seems to be working, however most have said they will only do this for a year so will have to have a rethink in a few months about it all. I am in the process of also going through a very expensive divorce, so I have the thought of BR still looming and nothing is cut and dried.
Looking back at my first post I see that straight away Phil was the person to post a reply and welcoming me to the boards along with 5yearplan and SSA. Along my journey I think I have always sought advice from Phil and also Bat and I am luck they have the time to look things through for me and point me in the right direction. (You will be amazed at how many people are happy to give up their time and help you out)
Then there is my lovely group of friends, who I would really be lost without…. Gradually over the months you find yourself maybe bumping up the Troll Thread (hey Dojo) or popping into the Inn (great Inn by the way Fermi!) and then you get chatting with people and these strangers turn into to friends and they become your support network. It is weird as at this time people are embarrassed or ashamed at being in this situation and find it easier to talk things over with people they haven’t met rather than their nearest and dearest. I am lucky I have a great partner and family, but they would never been able to steer me in the direction I am going now. So my friends you know who you all (The Waltons and November Christmas!) :Tthank you all so much :Tfor being there for me over the past year and hopefully for a lot longer.
Finally I knew I needed to start saving money so I wondered over to the DFW board mainly to check out the lovely Spoon’s NSD thread and I have not looked back, I have started chatting to a lot of people over on the NSD and the NTN thread and they really are lovely and make you feel welcome. I am sure this is the case on most of the other part of the site too so never feel afraid to venture over and check out what is happening and pick up some great Money Saving Tips!
So if you are like me, a year ago, a bit lost, in a mess, sleepless nights, wondering how you are going to cope…. Stop lurking and join up and take the plunge and post up your questions and you will soon get help from a lovely group of non judgemental people who have all been sitting in a similar situation to you.
So here is to my next year on the MSE and to what new challenges it may bring
