I'm a rubbish jam maker

So far - 3 jars of marmalade syrup
3 jars of fig preserve (aka syrup - of figs! hehe)
3 jars of blackberry stodge

I did use a jar of marmalade syrup as a loaf cake topping - all the shreds on top, syrup soaked in through holes in the cake - and it worked very well - but I'm on a diet ...

The only other things I can think of are using the syrups with a good vanilla icecream. Dunno what I can do with the stodge - and I haven't dared open it since I made it last year ... because I can't bear the thought of just chucking it.

Otherwise - what else can I do with these lovely things (which just don't happen to be jam ...)?

TIA

Susy

Use the blackberry as the base of a crumble? The flabour will b good and custard will moisten it.

Susy pop them in the bottom of a steamed sponge they are lovely used like that cos they're already a bit oozy
Did you add any lemon juice/pectin to help with the set?
I find if I'm using older sugar or fruit thats a bit too ripe it gives a softer set.

  • Herewith my sure fire jam recipe. Use frozen fruit as it breaks down more quickly than fresh. Get one large ceramic or glass bowl and put in equal quantities of fruit and sugar eg 1kg of each. Set microwave to 10 minutes full power. Put on kettle for a cup of tea and then after 10 minutes stir and repeat until sugar melted probably another 20 mnutes (time for a bath). Just make sure that the bowl is big enough for the jam not to boil over. Alternatively keep checking every 3/4 minutes but in that case get a book or the paper
