I've just realised...

I have a deadline to pay all (or a good proportion anyway) of this off by. August 2008 to be exact- otherwise my job is at risk as I depend on security clearance for my position and high debt is not good news. Very very scary. I want you all to give me hard kicks up the backside if you see me admitting to large spends on the "How much did you spend today" threads.

Not a problem, standing by with gentle prod ready
Do you have any particular amount of debt you think might be acceptable for you to still get the security clearance? Is there a target you're aiming to clear or just as much as poss?! You've done well since May - no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it :TDon't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now... I think if I could get between £10 and £15K by then I'd be ok. The problem comes with "large" debt (whatever "large" means) out of proportion with your earnings. The theory is that if you're having money difficulties you could be blackmailed or bribed for secret information therefore you won't be given security clearance. So I need to get back into proportion if you see what I mean. Keep that prod handy- you may be needing it :-)Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

I see what you mean - not a particular figure but what they (whoever 'they' are!!!) judge to be affordable so that you're not tempted by something underhand.... all sounds very dramatic!
So you have just about 2 years to clear between £10k and £15k... that's between £416 and £625 a month - based on your success so far I'd say you can do that :T
I was going to find a 'gentle prod' image for you but photobucket doesn't seem to be working todaybut watch this space!!
Keep us up to date with how you're getting on - nothing like a target to get you motivated! :TDon't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Thanks Kathfisch x. When you put it like that it doesn't seem so hopeless. I will add all this to my diary so I keep you all informed of my progress- it makes me want to try harder if I think people are keeping an eye on me. I just need to learn some more lentils and carrot recipes *trots off to the OS board*Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

I haven't seen your diary threadas I haven't been around too much lately but I definitely think its a good idea to keep a record - motivating for you and we know when to activate that prod!!
