Did he not seem just a touch patronising to people? If people weren't willing to agree with him straight away he was just quite rude, instead he could have maybe listened to their concerns. I certainly don't think that it's right for children to be given fish and chips everyday but if someone is that concerned about their child that they really do feel the need to come and supply them food through the railings then maybe their concerns should be, and are worth listening to. There's clearly a big communication problem with both sides not willing to consider the other.
I think to succeed, parents, and children, need to feel empowered by their food choices, not belittled and brow-beaten into it.
There's no doubt how much good Jamie has done, just airing my views on the finer points.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
I can remember a friend of my daughter who seemed to eat nothing but sweets. I took them both to the pictures one day and when we got there she bought herself a ton of sweets with the money her dad had given her and chomped them all the way through the film. I asked her what she had had for lunch and she said "nothing". So he had sent her out with no food inside her and just given her money for goodies!!! (This girl also had to have a lot of teeth remove at one point too and the ones she had left always looked black!)
Her mum at one point sent her to school each day with the lunchable packs that you can buy (the ones that contain crackers, round pieces of cheese and round pieces of ham, a drink and a choc bar). My daughter said she had the drink and the chocolate and threw the rest away!!!
I never made a fuss over sweets but my kids never had them every day and I never gave them as a 'treat' either. Even now, they don't eat many sweets.0 -
I'm happy to move this to Discussion Time if the OP would like to continue with the discussion about Jamie Oliver and healthy eating etc. I think it would be a very popular topic there too. Otherwise, since it's gone off the money saving, Old Style topic, can we try to get the thread back to its original topic, which was ways of adding more veg to our from scratch diet?
Thanks all.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
