Martin's student loan article - question

I've read and re-read the article on whether to pay back your student loan early if you can but can't seem to see where it says about how it will affect your mortgage. It says that question is answered but then i can't see it.
Can anyone answer it for me? I posted my SOA here a good few weeks ago now and things aren't quite as depressing as they were a couple of months ago but still very very tight. My b/f and I are hoping to get a mortage in about 12 to 18 months - he earns a reasonable wage and between us we will be able to afford the repayments for what we want to buy but the question is will they let us borrow as much as we want if i still have student loans outstanding. I have just under £4k i think.
I only earn £18900 per year so can't see myself earning over £24k in the next couple of years and having to actually start paying the loan off (currently deferring it) so will they still take it into account even though its not affecting anything at the moment as i'm not using any of my income to pay it off at the moment.
Thanks
