Somerfield's wholemeal sliced loaf

I always knew I'd find a use one day for my local Somerfield.

Having for years steadfastly walked past it and its 'special offers' (which usually bring the price down to just a shade more than Tesco's!) I've discovered an actual bargain.

IF you happen to be buying a wholemeal sliced loaf per week you can pick one up from Somerfield for 29p instead of the 48p charged by Tesco. This seems to be their standard price rather than an offer - so save yourself a quick tenner per year on the cumulative principle.

i do find a lot opf people say somerfields expensive, but Ive never thought so really. I do think thier own brand stuff ( particularly so good) is vastly vastly superior to other supermarkets ( not waitrose ho ;) )
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

i went into somerfield last week. first time in ages it seems . and they had some excellent offers and their prices on items that i buy did seem cheaper. i was very impressed. but i only had a fiver so i couldn't buy more than what was on my list.
  • cor blimey, somerfields (or scummerfields! ;)) by me is really expensive. Most notably, the bread!!!
Perhaps the supermarkets have diff prices for stuff around the country!

My local is both expensive as well as being poorly stocked.

So only use them when they have special offers and for reduced items. And bananas as they do 1.5Kgs for £1.22 and we eat a lot of bananas in my house.

They do have different price tiers(as do tescos!!) but over the last 3 months the new people running the company ( ex ASDA & ex TESCO ) have reduced several 1000 products and increased the Simply value range. Bread increases are a general increase across the board but large companies(tesco etc) are subsidising them (at the moment I run a bakery dept for them so I asked the question to the suppliers)

I think Somerfield is really expensive and I shop at M&S mainly!
It must depend on what you buy as my colleagues think it is really expensive too.
  • All that the discovery has done for me is to remind me to pay the OCCASIONAL visit to Somerfields JUST to check whether there might be a one-off surprise like this.

Their 'half price' and 'bogof' deals might look good - until you find that the Tesco value range is even cheaper...

Still, it would be nice if there could be a forum where special offers/lowest prices on regularly-bought items such as coffee, tea, bread, marge and all the rest could be flagged up. It might only be a matter of a few pence difference on some things but, provided they're non-perishable, we could all pile in there, stock up and make a saving!

Oh yes... and my Lidl has a special offer on Blackcurrant Jam - 44p for a 1lb jar... I've bought 10 jars and saved myself £2 vs their normal price and £3 vs Tesco's...
