Swap, don't Shop

I saw an article in the Daily Mail the other day that was going on about the 'Rise of the Recessionista' - now, I don't know about anyone else but I've been shopping in Primark and other cheap shops for years. I think the most I've ever spent on jeans is £35 and that took some serious consideration.
Having been wearing hand-me-downs from my 2 sisters all my life, I am pleased to see that companies have now caught on and are encouraging the reuse of clothes. Some really great swopping websites have also emerged, making it easier to recycle my wardrobe.
I've heard that a lot of Charity Shops are now disposing of bulk lots of clothes because they're overloaded with stock. I think this is really awful!
Does anyone else recycle their clothing?

I don't recycle, but I rarely ever throw anything away (no really, I have three wardrobes and clothes from when I was 18 and moved out). I only throw away stuff I am unable to mend myself or have holes in, anything else goes on ebay. I also have several items which are many sizes too small I keep- clothes hold memories for me, even if they are painful ones. Respect the clothes you have- for me they are my photo albums!
I would love though for there to be some real genuine swap sites. Too many of them are just filled with stuff from Peacocks and decade old Topshop. Items that are worth something are overpriced and cheaper on ebay, meaning the best stuff is not to be swapped.
Books seem to be the only thing I am able to swap online with any meaninful transaction happening.
I think that someone should open a swap shop up- it could be great- bring in your items for tokens, go around the store and buy things with your tokens. Thing is, I'd wonder if those stores too would be inundated with Primark type items.0 -
Your so right, a swapping shop would be amazing! I agree with you, a lot of online swapping sites are still young and a lot of the stock isn't great, but if you have a rummage through (hypothetically speaking), then you can often find something brilliant. Swop2Shop is a good site that just does womens and childrens clothes and they sometimes have good clothes x0
