Yes, as long as it hasn't already been cooked and frozen it should be fine.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

what a brilliant thread some really great ideas in here.
can i ask do you make your own nutloaf and nut cutlaets or can you recomend sone please.
one of ours is vegan, and one veggie we have really cut down on the meat we eat as a family so some of these meals i can use for shared meal times to save doing different things for everyone.
at the mo vegan DD is eating tesco vegan nut cutlets but im sure there is a better/cheaper alternative than continually buying 4 packs of those.SPC~12 ot 124

I tend to use ready made ones. Cauldron do a variety of tasty bits and bobs that are great for quickness. They have several vegan products.
The nutloaf I get though is a sesame seed one that you add water to and put in the oven. I will find out the make next time I go shopping and let you know.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
wouldnt have thought of using brown sauce..yet i always add lea and perrins to stuff, which is just as vinegar-y

my daughters wont eat lee and perrins as it has anchovies in so brown suace would be the veggie/vegan alternative.

Can I ask what 'jalapinos' is/are ..... I cant say I have ever come across it/them. Where should I look?
Sorry for being a total idiot but I live in the back of beyond .... thats my excuse if its anything exotic! If I am unable to get jalapinos is there anything that would serve as a 2nd choice?0 -
We use them on pizzas and as an extra with chillis. They're just chillis. Someone may be along to tell me the difference, but I just buy them in jars like olives and capers. I don't know how to make a substitue to have with the chilli as I wouldn't recommend eating raw chillis. (Are the ones in the jars pickled, anyone?) But on pizzas, mild sliced fresh chillis would substitute.
It's pronounced 'halapeenyos' I think. xMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Jalapenos are those fattish chillies, think they are about the most commonly sold fresh ones in this country - well in shops where you get the choice of one chilli or nowt else! They are fairly mild compared to some of the other varieties and come in red and green varieties.
Chipotles are smoked jalapenos.
If you can't but fresh, you can always buy the jars - GR is right, they are usually pickled in vinegar.
If I don't have any fresh, or any in jars, I use crushed dried chilli which you can buy readily (mine are home made dried ones from last year's chilli plant), or you can buy those jars of lazy chilli.0 -
Thankd for the info, I have never seen chillis in bottles and we only have chillis in packets, (2 red and 2 green) in the shop I go to. BUT I will see if they are named, I do know they are hot... I have a bottle o schwartz (sp) crushed chillis, I'll try that .
Meanwhile if I am ever in a big supermarket I will look for the jars!0
