Because this month I paid £300 straight off our CC and have since also paid our electric arrears of £140 I've left us short this month! (OR so OH thinks)
We have £1000 in savings and I've just worked out that after all bills we'll still have £550 to last us the month! My partner thinks this has left us short
We've spent £402 on the following (in 1 week!)
kitchen cupboards, bread maker and ironing board, meal out, Xbox + games, a concert ticket, £7 in IKEA, Magazine subscription, a Le Creuset pan, £60 on beer and take away (in 1 week  )
Now because I paid £440 of the debts - I'm apprently obsessed!! I think I'm just in the real world and can see where the priorities should be!)

Well no wonder he thinks you'll be left short if you spend that kinda money in one week - is it Christmas already!? :rotfl: I'd be well chuffed if I got all that stuff for Christmas! What's the plan for the rest of the month - do you have £148 left to last you?"Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0

Leni,
I think your approach is right. Unfortunately I also believe we all become slightly obsessive about clearing the debt as quickly as possible (I know I am). Obviously this is not a bad thing as we know our lives will be a lot easier without the hassle of phone calls, letters and the threats to send chimps round to your house and remove all your stripy socks in payment of a debt.
Keep up the good work. Your OH will be grateful when you’re both debt free.
Cheers,

I agree with FatJock, I know I have become a bit obsessed in the pursuit of being debt free but well done for clearing a chunk of it, surely your OH sees the benefit of this?VIRGIN CC [STRIKE] £648.87[/STRIKE]PAID OFF 08-09-09 :j

The £402 is in addititon to the £550
We have £550 to last us 4 weeks, to include petrol and food! I can't see the problem to be honest
He needs to realise the quicker the debt is gone, the quicker we'll have more money to spend:rotfl:

Since finding this site I to have become obsessed with clearing debt and spending carefully and I think you've made the right move. I agree with you the sooner the debt is gone the better placed you'll be to spend money ... wisely of course !!!

Don't you mean more money to save!! Think to the future..."Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0

I think you're doing the right thing personally and it's prob the same approach I would take too. If you can manage on £550 for the month then there's no problem. It's only if you are going overdrawn etc that you would need to worry.Mortgage-free wannabe!0

My take on the situation is that if we left the payment till it's due date (21st September) we'd have paid £100 max because we'd have spent the money willy nilly! Now because it's paid and gone, then we won't in theory "miss it"
We have extra money coming in that OH doesn't know about and I'll also be paying this off the CC once I've got my car MOT'd (I've got £100 saved seperately for MOT) - Travel Expences £120, Quidco £48, Mystery Shopping £50 plus £30 from making 2 birthday cakes = £248

Well done.
He would not like it in my house. We have spending allowance for personal spends of £10 a week .
I reckon you can save at least another £100 if you are careful.
I agree with Annie Fanny it is more money to save or use to pay off mortgage etc.
Once when I had a loan once it finished I started a DD to pay it in to my cash ISA. So I would not spend it but save it.
All the best with your money saving. And keep it up.

I want a set of Le Creuset Pans but I don't think I can afford it. That is probably why I do not have high debts (well not as high as some of those on here). Seriously you have to set priorities that you can both feel happy about. If a hard attitude to money is going to make you bicker and be unpleasant to each other let him have a few beers once in a while. Just don't go mad and keep focused on getting rid of your debts.0
