I've come to the conclusion I am ALWAYS gonna worry about money but i wondered what do you class as a "healthy" bank balance (and I mean a reasonable one - I asked my dad the same question, his reply was 'an unlimited one' - not helpful!)

Just wondering if i should set a "target" - At the moment my bank doesnt drop below £100 in credit

P.S - Thanks for the spends diary advice - going well!! :)

I'll know when my balance is healthy when I can go to the shop and not worry about how much I'm spending! :D

I hate going to a supermarket and counting in my head as I put stuff in the basket.

I'd love to go into M&S and do a months food shopping!! :D

Supermarkets are my down fall :( I spent £52 on Monday, looked at what we had brought and thought "is that it?!" - I'm definitley going to be shopping online in future to stay away from temptation buys!

M&S - I've never really been that interested in their food tbh but I hear the rice pudding is yummy! :)

I tend to just pop into the supermarket every so often for bread, milk etc...I do all main grocery shopping online.

I've never really bought anything from M&S but I know it's expensive...that's why I want to shop there! :rotfl:Although, I've heard the fruit is lovely!

If you are always £100 in credit, that is a fairly healthy bank balance, and better than a lot of us on here or anywhere else could say.

Ideally I would want a year's salary in a savings account, then I would feel comfortable, and about £100 credit in my current account.

It goes without saying that this isn't the case, merely what I am aiming for.

I would like to have three months wages stashed away and £200 always in credit. That would be nice lol xx

I'm not sure whether that was a rude comment or not? (i hate writing as you never know lol rude's probably not the right word to be honest! :) )

I KNOW some people are worse off than i am right now - I've been on this board for over a while now and have had the whole debts (£32k) which I no longer have and I am now worried about cash even more so because of the old debts and am just seeing what i "should" be aiming for (i've never been good with an emergency fund) and its nice to see others opinions on a "healthy" balance

I like the idea of a month's wages in the bank - Thanks!

Does M&S fruit ACTUALLY taste any different from other fruit? Surely a banan tastes like a banana?!

I think everyone should ideally have 3-6 months salary at least. People can plunge into trouble sooooo quickly if they lose their job if they don't have this cushion.

I also think it's about having enough in your current account (or having enough control over your finances) that you are not always living life on the edge. I would say a person who earns £1000 a month and has £50 left in at the end of the month has a healthier bank balance than the person who earns £3000 a month, but gets into a panic a week before payday.

My dad and cousin both say that the fruit, especially the grapes are by far, above average!

M & S food is lovely, and the dine in for 2 for a tenner with wine, main course, side dish and desert makes a great treat.
