Orange/Moorcroft and an extra £140! Please help?

Right after some studious avoiding of the post-mountain I have finally got round to opening most of it this afternoon/evening.
I owed Orange £399.65, it probably should be less than that actually but I truly do not have the emotional energy to fight about it, so I will take it on the chin at £399.65.
Then Moorcroft got involved, they are now saying it's £539.65.
It's gone up £140!!!
Yes Ok I accept not opening your post for months is no way to behave, but I haven't been well (mental health) and I couldn't do it. I'm doing it now though so please no "it's your own fault" replies, I know this.
Anyway, I rang Orange tonight to see if I could just pay them the £399.65 in one go by debit card and just clear it.
I tried my hardest to get Orange to accept the payment as my paperwork certainly makes it look like Moorcroft are only acting on behalf of Orange rather than actually owning the debt themselves, but Orange were not having it. They insist I deal with Moorcroft.
The problem with that is I know Moorcroft of old, they are sh*ts (pardon my language) and right now every fibre of my being is screaming avoid them... I am trying not to do that though.
There's no way I'm phoning Moroncroft, they always lie and they can't be trusted as far as they can be thrown in my experience.
I've got the £539.65 but I'd rather not give them more than £399.65 if I can help it. The thing is I bet if I make too much fuss about it they'll increase the charges again! (They're like that I find.)
So what now? Do I try getting them to take the charges off or do I just send them a Full and Final Offer letter (found a good template on National Debtlines website), or should I do something else?
I know it must sound like a totally stupid question but help please, anyone? I lose any sense of confidence in my own decisions at all when under pressure

I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

Typical behaviour from Moorcroft.
They have absolutely no legal power whatsoever to add to the debt.
The original amount you owe will be what you owe - nothing more/nothing less.
Report Moorcroft to the OFT & trading standards and make an official complaint to Orange.0 -

Sorry for the second stupid question in a row, but how do I report someone to the OFT or trading standards?
The official complaint to Orange I am guessing is just a formal letter?I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.

Well done on not phoning them:T
I'd send the "prove it" letter

It is a waste of breath calling Orange,
if they've passed/sold the debt on, they won't care or be able to help much
Hold the F&F template in reserve for now ( glad you got the good template)PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT NERD #869Numpty,Not sure why but I'm crying. Of all the peeps on this board you're the kindest & most supportive of all & I'm  &

Looked up the prove it letter, it saysI would point out that I have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to (insert company name).
As I do know of a debt to orange (just a debt of £400, not £540) is it lying to send this?
Sorry if that's another stupid question, just worried.

Why not just send a cheque for the original amount? That way you'll also have a paper trail to prove youve paid it0

Don't send them the money without a F&F settlement offer in writing, as they will just take the money as part payment towards the debt.
Send them a CCA request to see if the debt is enforceable. Have a look at the template letters thread by N.I.D and see which one best suites your situation, s/he has put full explanations on when to send what letter.0 -
