Considering Bankruptcy from Abroad

I am a Bitish Citizen living in NZ, I've been here since Jan 2010.
I have 4 credit cards with roughly £8k over all of them and a personal load of £17k.
I am a student and have no income and no one is in a position to help me with my debt, including family.
I am considering declaring bankruptcy. Does anyone know how to go about this and how much it will cost?

You can file for bankruptcy in the UK, you would either return to the UK and petition in person at the High court or appoint a lasting power of attorney to do this for you. This can be a friend or family or it can be a company. Obviously if a company this will cost whatever their fees are in addition to the normal £600 cost of bankruptcyHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
hi i went BR in march moved back to NZ 2 weeks later with my wife it doesn't follow you here you are only bankrupt in UK.
So get some money together and do it think of it as a investment of sorts a couple of grand to save 25,000.
We got a rented house and passed the credit check so my credit in new zealand is fine.0 -
hi there
I filed for bankruptcy in the UK from Australia last year. I didn't feel able to ask a friend or relative to act as power of attorney so I paid one of the bankruptcy companies to do it for me, which was very expensive and doubled the cost - although cheaper than airfares back to do it myself.0 -
Good thing you ask that......i also experience that before when i was a student,,,, better for an an assistance in bankruptcy attorney before filing your bankruptcy...0
