I think that dress is lovely, and not bridesmaidy at all. I think it will be fine.

Thanks very much for all your replies - I've ordered it now so will have to see what it looks on,lol!

After I originally posted I asked my son what he thought of it and his words were ' smart, yet not too formal' - which I thought from a man was an amazing obsveration. So, as he pointed out, it will match a piece of jewellery that I have but haven't had the chance to wear so all in all it coul be an inspired purchase.

Wow spooky - this is just the sort of thing I was thinking about yesterday. I'm planning to marry wearing purple, and will one bridesmaid also in purple. Initially I thought it wouldn't be a problem if guests turned up in purple as they're not likely to turn up in long formal outfits (I know my guests!) but now we've talked more my bridesmaid who will be 17 is wanting to wear a short dress. Great for me - no worry the bridesmaid will 'outdo' the bride lol - but I really don't want other guests turning up in a dress that could clash with her. While not going to the extent of telling people what they can and can't wear, I'm tempted to let people know that we'll both be in purple. Its the daytime really I'm bothered about and I only have a small number of guests and they're all close enough to me I can do this and know I shouldn't cause offence!
