Nov '04 mince

Options
Been defrosting freezer, and found lurking at the bottom an unopened packet of Asda turkey mince - use by Nov 2004. All packaging intact, and appears to be OK. Would you risk it?

I wouldn't, not cos it's likely to do you much harm, but as turkey doesn't taste of much to begin with, it probably tastes like cardboard now :)

I'd risk it if it doesnt smell bad/have freezer burn - it would be an adventure.

  • No way! (But I'm a veggie so wouldn't anyway :D ). I just wouldn't risk it - for the sake of a bag of mince that costs relatively little.....compared to 24 - 48 hours of food poisoning? (Have you ever had food poisoning?:tongue: _pale_ )...oh my god - it's just horrible. I don't want to think about it!

Turkey is one of the blandest things doing, so if it has mutated it could only have impoved. :p

Defrost it and see if it starts flapping. If it smells and looks unappetising, it's probably good as new. :D
  • No..no...no! No amount of moneysaving is worth it!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Dont, your savings on eating the mince would be swallowed up by the costs of the loo roll.......
  • Hi, inkie! If it's been properly frozen, the issue is around the eating quality of the meat, not food poison bugs, IMHO. If it looks OK when defrosted, I'd use it. Have you a recipe? If not, we cook a delicious pasta sauce "pork and carrot" which is just as good with turkey. It has plenty of flavour, and goes down a storm in our house!

I'll post the recipe if you'd like it.

Sure I'd risk it. Defrost the meat, remove any freezer burn, and cover it in spices before cooking.
