Been defrosting freezer, and found lurking at the bottom an unopened packet of Asda turkey mince - use by Nov 2004. All packaging intact, and appears to be OK. Would you risk it?

I wouldn't, not cos it's likely to do you much harm, but as turkey doesn't taste of much to begin with, it probably tastes like cardboard now

I'd risk it if it doesnt smell bad/have freezer burn - it would be an adventure. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0

 No way! (But I'm a veggie so wouldn't anyway
). I just wouldn't risk it - for the sake of a bag of mince that costs relatively little.....compared to 24 - 48 hours of food poisoning? (Have you ever had food poisoning?
_pale_ )...oh my god - it's just horrible. I don't want to think about it!

Turkey is one of the blandest things doing, so if it has mutated it could only have impoved.
Defrost it and see if it starts flapping. If it smells and looks unappetising, it's probably good as new.0 -
No..no...no! No amount of moneysaving is worth it!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

Dont, your savings on eating the mince would be swallowed up by the costs of the loo roll.......0

Hi, inkie! If it's been properly frozen, the issue is around the eating quality of the meat, not food poison bugs, IMHO. If it looks OK when defrosted, I'd use it. Have you a recipe? If not, we cook a delicious pasta sauce "pork and carrot" which is just as good with turkey. It has plenty of flavour, and goes down a storm in our house!
I'll post the recipe if you'd like it.

Hi PP - yes that would be good- thanks!0

Sure I'd risk it. Defrost the meat, remove any freezer burn, and cover it in spices before cooking.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

I would use it too. Its been frozen.
I have used all sorts of meat that has been in the freezer for years.0
