NoThis is the interesting question for the ConDem's committment to civil liberties. Will they support civil liberty positions that are not populist?Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0

NoOff topic but this made me laugh, those jobsworths have got worse

A Wearside great-grandmother has won her fight against a £50 fine for picking up the wrong dog mess.

Such as?
There are some laws that really are so far from necessary, or serving any practical purpose such as no demonstrations within 1 mile of parliament, stop & search and laws making it illegal to take any photos or videos of policeman.
These are examples of Labour's authoritarianism that need to be cosigned to the dustbin.0 -

NoDo you think we will be able to get the motorway speed limits scrapped

Likewise when you're allowed to take a 50cl bottle of liquid on a plane, but not a 51cl bottle, or when a group of you can each take a 50cl bottle (potentially a few litres of liquid) on a plane, you know the legislation was badly written.
.
A nonsense argument. Limits have to be set somewhere, surely.
Tell you what, stick 100cl of petrol in a bottle, place it in your car and light the blue touch paper. Enjoy, afterwards, the 'liberty' you have to call the emergency services. While the brigade is dealing with the smoking ruins, you can enjoy the 'liberty' of imagining an upgrade to genuine explosives and a pressurised cabin at 30,000 feet.
Most of the things which you decry cost big money and would not be done unless thought to be useful. No government would prefer the publicity of introducing security measures to that of spending more on e.g. hospitals.
You really do need to take a step back, realise that you're living in the age of Al Qaeda and not that of chivalry and re-think your position.0 -

I'm afraid speed is precisely that for some people - a drug.
I've seen the results on more than one motorway.0
