Ok, so are any of you getting a bit frustrated seeing stuff that you really wanted to win but didn't on ebay ..even stating they won it in a prize.
Why do people enter competitions they wouldn't want to win..surely its not fair on the people who want to win them
In this instance i am refering to a cloudy with a chance of meatballs bag and stationary set...it may sound lame but id've loved that! And i dont see why i should have to give someone money for it. sigh.
maybe we should set up a prize swap thread..on a like to like basis? xXx:(

Tricky one...
I know there are rules and regs about swapping prizes or giving them away to fellow compers. I know a lot of tickets get passed on but I don't think we're meant to be doing it... so a swap board would probably be ruled straight out.
I don't like it when people win and sell on ebay but I suppose if they were lucky enough to win it, they can do what they want with it. If they put the effort in like the rest of us to enter, who are we to say they're not worthy winners? MSE is, I suppose, a money saving site so a lot of people on here are doing what they can to make a bit of money. If selling comp wins is how they make some of that money, not sure I can really put my tuppence in to say it shouldn't be allowed.
Suppose I see both sides - but that's not to say I like it!
Jx2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
I dont think there is anything wrong with selling wins (dont shoot me) i personally only enter for things i want to win but i have sold a couple of things on ebay because of either they are not as good as what i thought they would be,i didnt use it when i thought i would or the more common reason with me is i needed the money i know people will disaprove of this but some times things crop up and selling wins helps out when things are tough
ps
dont be cross with me i have only ever sold 2 things on ebay that were wins:o0 -

I have to agree with you there.. I have sold quite a few wins and kept the rest... I love winning things I want and need but I also NEED CASH for the family... and if I can make enough cash selling wins to get my family food for the week then so be it... I sold a Frasure Box set on ebay I won and if it wasnt for that then I wouldnt have been able to pay the mortgage that month...
I see your original point at being put out someone selling something you didnt win but I believe in fate and each prize goes to the right person in the end!
I must however add if its a prize for a BIG FAN like a meet and great or a signed T-shirt then I will only enter if I am a fan myself.
I think everyones opinion on this subject will differ depending on their own persoanl circumstances.BACK and READY..... waiting on Royal Mail!!!0 -
I have to agree I dont see a problem with selling wins if needs be some things go alittle way to help people. For instance I won a macbook worth £800 so If I was short of money or really didnt need to laptop I for one would sell it as its my win and I decide what to do with it... I've also won a few things like tickets and so on and have passed them on to friends and family.0

Strangely enough, I've just completed my first ebay sale
In my defence though the prize said it was for a child & didn't specify girls/boys. Was definitely for a girl & I have a boy. Was also aged 7+ and my boy is a very small 4
I don't generally enter for anything I couldn't use, but right now a bit of extra cash will come in handy :TThanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
I didn't think of it like that..guess im more thinking about small wins like promo sets etc..stuff you cant buy that you can only get from films etc. Im sad and like things like movie posters etc lol
I'm not criticing people for things its just me and my OH got talking when i won a compost pail 2 weeks ago. He went..someone may have really wanted that..which i replied..yeh..your mum for her birthday to replace her broken one! So in that instance i suppose i entered not for myself.
I got 2 crufts tickets from an mse'r (reminds me i still have a box of choccies in my cupboard for her-oops!)
haha Willwba (just seen ur sig)..how to train your dragon was AWESOME! Hope you enjoyed it
ill forget i posted anything xNeed a new start..wheres good to live in the UK?!0 -
With things like movie goodies, I have won Sherlock Holmes merchandise, which I didnt want - it was a runner up prize, the main was prize was a camcorder, so perhaps the ebay seller had entered for a bigger prize? just because i cant see the stationery set going for a lot?2011 biggies: £1000 holiday,£100 all saints voucher, £200 ticketmaster, Links London bracelet, Ted Baker watch, £50 Oliver Bonas
2011 aim - win enough to save up for baby items!
2009 wins total £2623 inc break in Iceland!
2010 wins total £6430 inc break in Dubai!0 -
I believe in comping karma, as I'm sure many of us on here do. Prizes have a way of going where they are needed, those who kindly pass on prizes on here that they cant use I feel tend to get rewarded in some way win wise or personally etc.
It is such a shame that a prize intended for a child was won by an adult and sold instead of being given to a child, and not an expensive prize at that. I can understand selling something worth a bit more money ie a mobile/ebook reader/wii etc.
Who am I to judge.Comping wishlist for 2017
1. Family holiday 2. Christmas presents :rudolf: 3. Fishing stuffThe more you put into life, the more you get out0 -
Personally I dont think it really matters what people do with their prizes. Pass them on, sell them, charity etc. Most of us spend alot of time here and doing comps, it would probably be better to get a paper round for the extra cash rather than spend the time here to get wins to sell. But where is the fun in that and some of us do not have dedicated time for extra work.
The only problem I have with any comps are the ones that vastly over exagerate what the prize fund is only to discover in the T&C's that it is near impossible to ever win.
At least if a prize is ebayed then someone can benefit from the discount prize. Keep on comping everyone.Trying my best to save where I can......0 -
I have sold a couple of things on ebay. I always enter what I want to win & the items I sold begrudgingly tbh, as they were quite high valued items & felt I couldn't keep them when my kids were ready for some new clothes.
I think it's up to the individual, I don't think there's much wrong with it if it's a general item. Autographed things and fan comps I think should be left to those who are fans, as I also believe children's comps should be left for those who have children!!xx JoJo xx
:heart2: And only now I see the light...:heart2:
