'Shepherds' pie is with lamb, hence the name. Beef is cottage pie.

    I think?

I believe Lillian is correct - I don't know what the "correct" name is if you use soya mince (which I do) but we refer to it as Shepherd Spy.:D

I also add sliced carrots and peas into the mince, as well as chucking grated cheese on top of the potato layer before baking.:o

Honey - just store it in its jar in the cupboard; it keeps for ages!

    It's Shepherdess Pie if it's veggie :)

Honey in the cupboard definitely, never in the fridge or it will crystallise. If it does this from cupboard storage, just stand it in a bowl of hot water for a bit.

We make an Italian version with pesto mash, mozzarella grated and Bolognese base.

yeah shepherds/lamb, beef/cottage (I 'get' the reference to shepherds in relation to lamb, but why beef is 'cottage' pie I have no idea?)
if in doubt on how to store foods, think back to which section of the supermarket/shop you bought it in. Honey tends to be on the shop shelves - therefore it does not need refridgeration or freezing. so a cupboard is fine!

My cottage pie is usually beef mince, 1-2 onions, maybe a bit of celery, mixed frozen veg (peas, sweetcorn, carrots, green beans), garlic, beef stock, some gravy granules or cornflour to thicken it up, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, maybe a bay leaf, and tomato puree. Not really sure on amounts, I just chuck in whatever I fancy - or whatever I have in the cupboard!

I usually top with sweet potato as I rarely buy normal potatoes. Never cheese on top though...blergh. I am not a cheese fan.
    Kate.
