Savings after discharge

Hi all,

I haven't posted in ages but was wondering if anyone has had any success in opening any kind of savings account after discharge? I was discharged in Dec 2008 after going BR in June of the same year and have just applied for an ISA with Co-op who I have the basic bank account with. They have rejected me due to my credit file- it's utterly stupid in my opinion that I can't have a savings account due to my credit file!!! Surely me wanting to start saving is a positive thing?! I also have a basic bank account with Barclays and am not sure whether it's worth trying with them? Any suggestions would be most appreciated :o

Thanks for reading!!

Yorkshire Building Society are very good, they have an internet savings account which is very easy to open.

I have savings with Santander, Yorkshire Building Society and Sainsbury. I have since closed Sainsbury as the interest was naff. I also have a Natwest savings account that they opened for me when BR, BUT I think I fell through their net as I also kept my Step account which is unusual.

I also have opened a Stocks and Shares ISA with Legal and General; they just wanted proof of my discharge and I also opened a share account with Hargreaves Lansdown.

It sounds a lot!! I do not have buckets of money, but small pots for different things. The Santander I only have on a temporary basis as I am a non-tax payer and 2.5% was the best return I could get on a non-isa account (cos I subscribe to one already) and this rate is only for 12 months. I was surprised they accepted me.

I have a savings account with Barclays. I was in there the other day paying something in to my main account and was thinking about a joint account for hubby and I so that we can both move from Co-Op (our nearest one is an hours drive away).

Came out an hour later, had a joint account and a savings account with them, both of them I can view through Barclays internet banking and can transfer money to and fro.

We were automatically discharged in February :) Hope that helps.

I opened Barclays More4More savings, Sainsburys Bank and Yorkshire Building Society savings accounts all successfully even before I was discharged.

So you shouldn't have any problems going for one of those (although I know some have probs with Sainsburys even though I didn't).

Barclays here again, have the kids ones there (in my name) also. No problems with them at all. Interest rate shocking, but who's isn't these days.
