Hi debtdesperado & welcome
One of the things i have found very helpful has been joining the No Spend Day challenge. I've never been very good at keeping my spending diary, it starts so well every month but then my life seems to get in the way & i forget.
Being able to declare a NSD, or admit to what i have spent has been really helpful as having a chat with friendly people doesn't seem like such a chore, but whenever i have to admit to having spent, it makes me think about what & why.
I only started this month but I can honestly say i'm being less wasteful already!!:jFebruary NSD challenge 5/150 -
Hi,
I use this diary http://www.spendingdiary.com/ It's really good and you can run reports and export the file.
As to disciplining yourself to make sure you write everything down, I've found this really hard when I've been away for the weekend. What you could do at least is count how much you have in your purse at the end of each day - then you at least know how much you've spent and will hopefully be able to remember most of it.
HTH!

Hi, debtdesperado
My daughter was having the same problem, lost reciepts, spending diary gathering dust under the bed and the bank charges mounting.
She found online banking on her phone a lifesaver, they even text her when her balance is getting low (she sets the low limit herself).
My mum uses the envelope method, she draws out her cash each week and put the money in envelopes for food, spends, travel or whatever.
I have an old fashioned cash book that I've used for the last 18 years, that works for me.
Hope you find a method that works for you.:o
