Well after going to the venue I loved in the pictures, it turned out to be nothing like the pictures at all and just looked stuck in a time warp
That's put me in a real downer. I mean it's a lovely location and the dining room would look ok but YKWIM. It just didn't feel like "this is the place".
I've been looking around at different places but all the really nice places are £6k to rent out THEN £25 ppph and we have 60 coming to the breakfast. The other place would have been £2260+ for drinks, dinner style breakfast and then buffet style dinner in then evening for evening guests. As I'm having to save to pay for this I don't particularly want to spend that much even though to begin with I thought why not. (my how things change when you have another little one on the way
) Is it just me feeling like that?
I did think about going to our local Chinese restaurant and seeing if they could do anything but then you have the problem of no dancing in the evening.
Rant over.
So lets see if you kind ladies (and gents) can help me. I live in barnstaple, north devon. The place I'd seen was Sandy Cove. I have a Max budget of £4k for everything including dress, suits etc, etc, although if I could spend less that would be great.:o My DD is going to be a bridesmaid along with OH's friend DD who will be 3 at the time (cuteness factor) and also this bump will either be bridesmaid or page boy (depending what sex he/she is)
Ticked boxes must have nice photographable areas, good food, able to have evening dinner there and be able to get married there with dancing in the evening. I know that's asking a lot
HELP!!

This looks good and maybe you can haggle with the prices? It's about £2.5K and I think I read £27 pp. But haggle with everything!
Looks very lovely. I will keep searching though

I know how you feel totally!! I went to visit my first venue a few months ago I liked it and everything but it was 5k for inside plus everything else food ect and 7k for the marquee. I felt like giving up after that so not really bothered much since

We're feeling the same, we can scrap £4.5k maximum at the moment

I'm in the same situation too. Some of the places look lovely online but as soon as you see them in the flesh they're just a disappointment! Been trawling the net for about 4 months now trying to find somewhere within our budget. Just going to have to bite the bullet and book somewhere soon, especially if we're planning to get married next year!0

Not necessarily - one of my friends didn't want the usual wedding venue. They had their ceremony in a function room at a venue but then moved on to Cafe Rouge for their meal as it was their favourite place to eat, then had an reserved area in a bar.
Given that it was a Saturday night in Chelmsford, we had loads of people gawping as we headed round town - my friend was in her full wedding gown.
It was brilliant - everyone in the bar was congratulating them and buying them drinks. Later on, she decided she wanted to dance so we all moved into Chicago's lol. Some of her friends and I decided to helpfully request them a first dance (Monkees - I'm a Believer - we'd had a bit to drink by this point) and the DJ took some convincing that someone had actually come in on their wedding night, but cottoned on once we pointed them out! He made them get up on the podium for their dance. :rotfl:
Absolutely loved it - we all had a brilliant night. It was the best food I've ever had at a wedding too. I love Cafe Rouge food and it's miles better than the usual wedding fayre (I know it's hard for venues to get 60 plates of roast dinner out in one go).0 -

Can't do there as it would be reeeeeeally weird as this is where OH got married to his ex-wife. lol. So that place is a no no even though it's lovely
And as for the Chinese they say on their website the cater for weddings, so I could just see what they say I suppose
I'm just having a down day I guess because of the pregnancy. lol. What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -
Yep; I know exactly what you mean too. We were the same; had three places I really liked and then got there and found out that they looked like they hadn't deocrated since the 70s and everything else was way above budget!

All I would say is persevere and don't let it get you down; keep looking. We ended up just booking viewings at every hotel and venue we could think of (our budget is smallish £4000 and so was a hard task) - but we finally found an unexpected winner last week and are going in to negotiate prices next week.
So all is not lost; just don't give up looking; your venue is out there! :-)))
xx
PS: Double congrats on the wedding and baby :-)0 -
Like others have said just look everywhere that holds weddings. Lol! You might find a surprise location that you never thought would work!Green and White Barmy Army!0

I know it's not quite what you asked for, but have you considered getting married at your local registry office and then finding a venue for after?
Our wedding was at our local registry office (v. nice though) and cost around £200 all in. We then hired our local village hall (£320 for Friday evening-Sunday morning), and some caterers did the food for us (£5 a head). It's not to everyone's taste, but it's very cheap and there are some lovely alternative venues out there. I've just quickly googled your location, and the first result (Filleigh village hall) looks nice!
Sorry if this wasn't what you were after, but it never hurts to check out alternatives!0
