Stolen Mobile Phone
Hi, don't know if this is the correct place but I would really appreciate some help...
Me and my friend have just got back from a night out where her new contract phone was stolen- a Blackberry Storm 2. She had opted in for insurance, but has only had it for two weeks and has yet to make her first payment... does anyone know if it would be replaced?
We have already called and cancelled the sim and the handset so whoever took it cannot have used it, but I just want to reassure my friend as to whether it is likely to be replaced or not before the first payment...
Thanks in advance x

Should be fine. You should report it to the police and get a reference number from them.
And no, "Loans" is not the right place, but nevermind...0 -
It completely depends upon the circumstances under which the phone was stolen. It is usually in the T&Cs of the insurance as to making sure you did everything you could to keep it safe.
The company I used to work for would reject for loads of trivial reasons. If it was stolen due to carelessness then expect the insurance company to say no. I.E. if you left it unattended on a table then they would likely not honour the claim.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
My nephew had his moblie stolen from his coat pocket last week. His coat was on the back of his seat. ( A bit on cash taken as well) He had a police ref number. Mobile insurance declined his claim yeasterday saying not enough care taken? Why do we bother with these policies I wonder.

In the past I had a phone stolen on a night out.
You need to ring the police straight away and get a reference number. I am pretty sure there is a time limit that you need to contact the police, otherwise your claim becomes invalid.
My phone was in a zipped up jacket pocket, but somehow I was pick pocketed and the phone was stolen. I don't know how they managed to steal it, but they did.
As others have said, there are a lot of reasons a claim can be rejected.
I don't think there should be any problem about the first premium not being paid, as long as you have the certificate of insurance already.0 -

The time limit is generally policy specific but where I worked it was 24 hours of being lost / stolen.
The proximity of the claim to taking out the policy will raise some flags to the insurance company so do make sure you are 100% clear on the situation as to how the phone was stolen, otherwise they will easily be able to find a reason to deny your claim (for instance a confused / incoherent / changing story is often used as a reason).Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
just tell your friend to say she lost it to the insurance people
tell them it was in her pocket last time she saw it and it must have fallen out
that way they cant diddle her by saying she didnt take enough care
if she says she left it unattended in her handbag of coat and they wont pay out0 -

^ that was my phone in the zipped pocket, the op just said their friends was stolen.
Another thing to add is your will friend will also probably have to pay an excess if the claim goes through, was about £25 for mine, but will no doubt be policy specific and maybe even phone specific.0 -
were they drunk at the time?0
