I,like many of you, save all the old screws from appliances etc. before throwing them away? But how many of you find that when you want a number of matching screws for a job you are always one short and spend the next hour looking for that missing one.
I finally admitted defeat and splashed out on boxes of screws for the sizes I commonly used, the time saved far outweighed the expense.0 -
If I posted this here before, apologies, I can't be bothered to go through all the postings to check:
Sponge soup:
When your kitchen sponge, stainless steel pad and dishcloth are getting grimy and a bit slimy, rinse them well then put in a pan of water and half a cup of vinegar, and let it boil for 5 minutes, then rinse in cold water, they will be like new and no need to use environmentally-unfriendly bleach!
The reason it is called Sponge Soup is because when my kids were little and I was doing this they asked me what I was doing and I replied I was cooking sponge soup for dinner (you should have seen their faces!).

This book is one of my absolute favourites in the world - have you tried to make a still and distill your own booze yet? I haven't (yet!)

I've got nothing done today through reading this thread, but it's certainly brightened up a rainy day. I'll admit to doing a lot of things already mentioned especially to get every last drop out of stuff.I don't eat Cornflakes but OH and DS do and and they always leave loads at the end of a box "because they're too small" which annoys me, so I'll be trying the idea of pouring them back into the new box. Although they don't actually get wasted as we feed them to our hens. Something I do - I don't like salty crisps so I buy salt and shake ones but don't use the salt so I tear the little packet open and empty it into my salt pot.On what to do with buttons - this is a good game at Christmas. Spread some buttons on a tray and each person has one minute to find as many pairs as they can. In our house this gets really competative with everyone going back for more goes to try and beat the highest score.0

- cutting the ribbon loops out of jumpers/tops and using for crafts
