Because of the many original paintings by the artist Alberto Giacometti in the lounge.

Because it is an impeccably run, well-maintained and sensitively restored mountain hotel from the 19th century.

I think it's the third option but don't hold me to it.I've googled the artist & his work is very pricey.

The hotel dates from 1883 and received the award of the "historical hotel of the year 2001".

Hi furn. I also got this email a couple of days ago, but didn't post it, because like you and weeowen, I couldn't find a definite answer. I also think it is the third option, which fits the criteria of the award. The other reason I didn't post it up is because I can't seem to confirm or otherwise whether flights are included. My Switzerland are normally very precise in their T&C and I couldn't see it anywhere.

Thanks Plush, I did put it in post, but have now put in the title. I enter these type of comps - no transport in Europe, as we travel around Europe quite a bit in camper with no particular destination in mind, so can include them especially if, like this one, they have a very long "use by date" on them

I also think it is the third option. The "special award in 2001" was The Historic Hotel of the Year Award - "presented annually by the Swiss branch of ICOMOS...The goal of the prize is to raise awareness of the importance of old hotels to Switzerland’s cultural heritage." (source)

In addition -

The hotel dates from 1859 (source) and Napoleon's Italian campaign was 1796-97.

Alberto Giacometti's work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, J. Paul Getty Museum in California, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Tate Gallery in London... I think it unlikely that the Grand Hôtel Bella Tola would feature work by an artist of such fame and caliber and not mention it on the website - www.hotel-bellatola.ch
