what does it taste like? i've got some in the fridge but don't fancy opening it to taste it

I guess it just has an intensely savoury taste; little goes a long way, as with anchovies generally. I like it. Recipe here

Anchovy paste is a little softer than Gentlemans relish (I got some paste from IKEA) but tastes very similar.

Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • The tubs are actually tiny and they are hollow bottomed too! (Like Cold cream used to sold in) So the stuff is actually quite pricey. I like it on toast but only as a luxury and to me it tastes mainly of salt and anchovy - I would imagine that they are keeping quiet about the actual recipe. Another nice one they do is called "Poachers Relish" which is similar but pink and salt and salmon flavoured.
The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...
  • Many thanks everybody.
You have made a gentleman very happy.
With all the gentleman's relish I will be making this winter I will be able to afford to breakfast on scotch woodcock. (scrambled eggs mixed with anchovy paste or gentleman's relish on toast.)
To buy or not to buy, need not be in question

Is there a list of ingredients on the pot? You could go and look at it in the store and memorise the ingredients before having a go yourself. I'm intending to do something similar with Patak's Brinjal pickle shortly - and if successful I'll post my recipe on here!

Patak's Brinjal is the busines and very very difficult to copy. Should you have any success please pm with the recipe and method
