He doesn't work?

My daughter is 4 months old now, and hasn't seen her dad once. He still lives at home with his parents and goes to college part time, and isn't recipt of any benefits, so I know he won't have to pay maitenence if I went to the CSA.

But my question is if I did go to the CSA now would they put him on there records for when he does start earning money? So he would have to notify them of his income changes. Or would I have to apply again once he does starting getting an income?

If you apply now, he will have a nil assessment, but when he does get a job, he will have to pay arrears from the date the claim is started (when they contact him).

How is he getting by if he doesn't work, are his parents fully supporting him still?

What is the relationship between you like? Would he be able to contribute anything, time or money at all on an amicable basis, maybe his parents would like to be involved with your daughter?

Yes, it's his parents supporting him. We don't have any relationship between us whatsoever, he's made it clear that I ruined his life by keeping my daughter. As for his parents, I did write to them and they never got back to me either. So I've figured they're not interested.

So it would be best to apply now regardless of him not having any income. Thanks for the help :-)

Be prepared to wait a very long time though as CSA will write out to him making him aware of all this and ask for his income details etc. So he will know as soon as he starts working he wil have to pay and if he is anything like my ex he will do everything possible as to not pay. Iv now been waiting 6 years and 2 months for money, my case has been with criminal compliance for 4 years now! I wont give up though! There are people on here who have been waiting even longer than me! So dont get your hopes up

Yes, apply now. The sooner the better. He may dispute parentage, in this case you will all have to have a dna test. But he will have to pay for that, so don't worry.
It may well take a while, but could be worth it in the end.

let me get this right. if you get a nil assessment while you are a student, you dont actually get a nil assessment you just store up arrears until you get a job? so when you have finished your education and you get a job then you have to pay arrears from the student years? even though there was no arrears? tell me im wrong!!

No that isn't true. If he gets a nil assessment it will remain nil until such time as a new assessment is calculated based on income - it can't be backdated as it was correct at the time.

oops, my bad .... but at least if you get the ball rolling now it will save time in the future, especially if he does dispute parentage.

how much longer is he going to be a student for?? and is there any chance of him getting even a part time job??

It's his last year on the course he's doing at the moment, but I'm not sure if he's going to be going on to doing another one, he was thinking about it when we were together. And nope, no part time job, he doesn't like to leave his beloved bedroom!

I'm thinking now though that if I did go to the CSA he would put off getting a job even longer just to spite me

phew!! i was getting a little worried then about the 4 years i was doing my training!!!
