lipgloss or lipstick?

i have always used lipstick, whether glossy or matt, dark plum shades or pink or copper - not used to neutral shades yet.

i have never bought glosses as when i test them on my hand they feel a bit sticky and look like hardly any colour at all.

i know it may sound a silly question, but i would like to know

do you wear it on its own or over lipstick?

are they sticky on the lips and would my hair stick to it and drag gloss out of the lipline.

how dark do the shades appear on the lips - as majority of glosses look so sheer its will look like hardly any colour at all (given that i am used to colour on my lips and dare not go out with out any lippy!) in magazines when they show pictures of makeovers the lipglosses suggested look nice and dark enough. if it is such a sheer colour what is the point for wearing it .

and does it come off the lips quicker than lipstick does? - my lipstick tends to fade a bit when i eat or drink, i end up eating the lipstick along with the food, and so i need to reapply only a tiny bit- but would lipgloss have to be reapplied more often.

some of the glosses come in a tube and look like lipbalm - eg the lancome juicy tubes - are they a lipgloss or lipbalm?

sorry for sounding naive but i don't know whether to spend money on it or not ?!

thanks for any suggestions/ideas

I wear lipgloss both on its own and over lipstick.
Some formulations are sticky, others are not (Bourjois Eau de Gloss is a good non-stick formulation.) Yes, if you have a sticky lipgloss and long(ish) hair, your hair will stick to it. So will random bits of crumb, cat fluff, etc.
Most glosses give a medium sheer coverage with me, but it will depend partly on the pigmentation of your lips. Lip gloss does wear off quicker, but doesn't dry to the lips like lipstick can and generally keeps lips in better condition. Reapplication time depends if you like a very high gloss look or if you are happy with a more natural nude sheen.
Juicy Tubes are a lipgloss, AFAIK. Every range seems to do lipgloss now, so test out some cheaper ones (Wet'N'Wild or ELF) before committing to the Lancome, as that could be a pricey mistake if you don't like it.

Have you thought about trying one of the long lasting lip pigments with clear gloss topcoat - I have Almay stuff which is quite good. The base coat is very matte and drying though.

HTH, bit of a gloss junkie here!

    Personal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
