I'm been harrassed

I'm not sure if i'm posting in the right section, but here goes.

I've fallen into arrears with a catalogue, about 4 months, anyway on Saturday i got a phone call to try and sort things out, within in that phone call i paid £5 and agreed to pay x amount everymonth, starting in march as i don't have the money right now, and after the 1st payment i will set up a regualar payment plan via dd. I releif, then on Monday i received another call from the catalogue, i explained that i had come to some arrangement and although she knew she said i would still receive calls, now i get 2 to 3 calls a day and everytime i explain that i ahve came to an arrangement, then on Wednesday i recieved yet another call, and went through the same as before apart from this time i got passed onto another person, who started demanding a payent of £167 there and then, i tried to explain i had not got anymoney until March, and he became quite abusive with me, telling me that he was going to make sure that i suffer from not paying, i was getting quite angry and told him if he didn't change his attitude with me that i would hang up, he didn't he attitude and i didn't hang up, by time the conversation ended i had an attitude, i felt he wasn't listening to me, so why should i bother. Now i'm still getting the calls, apart from i can't bring myself to talking to them, i now avoid answering he phone and get my partner or son to. Can i do anything about it, i not trying to run away from the debt, i will pay it just like i agreed to, but it's driving me mad.

  • You can write/email and ask them to take your contact number off the system. This can deffo be done for DCA's and i am pretty sure it can be done for other agencies to. 2 mins and i will post the letter you need to send- once i have found it lol
  • can you try ringing their customer service dept and explain to them what has happened? they may be able to help and update their system x

You can send this letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=26867957&postcount=15 (first letter in that link)

And you could report them to the OFT for employing 'unfair debt collection methods'

Having been on the receiving end of various creditors' calls, I spoke to BT and they changed my telephone number (I told them I was getting nuisance calls) - they did this for free - I think they will do it once for free. A bit of a hassle to change your number, but it is worth it.

Also, I noticed you said you were setting up a direct debit to pay this - I would suggest that this is not a good idea as a DD will allow them to take what they want! Set up a Standing Order - they way, you are in control.

    Good luck.
