I'm having a nightmare!!

Hiya! not been on here for a week or so! Things have been going pretty well, managed to settle a debt in January and one in Feb, we even got a letter from northern rock who thanked us for keeping up with payments despite being in a months arrears, so me and oh started to relax a little and all of a sudden it feels like we have gone back 6 months!!!

Our car broke and has cost £416 to fix and it has totally thrown us, mechanic has said we can pay in two lots, total outgoingsthis week including £200 to mechanic is £546.87 and then next week its 832.52 including mortgage! I just feel I could scream!! I had £400 set aside towards mortage (this already includes my £150 savings) and had planned to take £150 from OH wages tommorow and £150 the following week to make it up to £700 but now i have to use this money to pay for the car!

I just dont know what to do!

Also we got a court summonds yesterday for council tax! however i contacted the council as i am up to date with payments and have a receipt for said 'missed payment' and turns out all that was an error - talk about giving someone a heart attack! however its not all over yet as council claim they didnt receive payment despite me having a receipt and bank claims it went out the bank but are looking into it as it says 'default' on my file and they dont know what this means! so if it turns out they actually never received the payment then we will have to find the money for that!

AND on top of all this student finance STILL owe me some money! going to chase them up tommorow!

Sorry for the rant just need to get it all off my chest xxxx

Don`t you just hate it when things like this crop up  could you in future start a emergency fund incase of things like this happening?
Do you have anything you can sell?
could you ask the mechanic if you can pay in 3 or 4 instalments?

you have proof so i would not worry about this at all hunni, make sure you keep the proof and get a copy from the bank of the payment!!

  • Hi Saving mummy! Got some great news! I rang student finance, cos basically I started uni last october, and accidently applied for a nons mean tested loan which was 2000 plus for the year, and student support at uni advised me that I was entitled to more than this and that I should have applied for a non means tested, which I did straight away, and student finance requested I sent them proof of earnings which I did but they said they couldnt accept what I had sent so I sent them something else, and now 4 months later after several letters and phone calls. I have rang them and they told me they owe me 1500 and this will be going into the bank on Monday!

I can not believe it I feel so so lucky, im not getting too excited though until its def in, but hoping I can use this to get back in front with finances again, cos I felt like I was slipping back - also this means I can leave my savings along for a little longer which again is great, I never had savings before and although there not loads I felt great for being able to have them and i was really upset about the thought of having to start at 0 again - so yay!!

    Thanks for your replies xxxx

:jThat is just fantastic news :D
It should go in Monday, if it isn`t chase it up Tuesday morning first thing.

Ensure you do use it to get back on the straight road and maybe start a little emergency fund from now on.
Even £5 a month put away adds up and helps if something does inconveniently crops up.

Glad you can breathe a little now :rotfl:have a good weekend xx
