How do I make breadcrumbs without using a food processor?

    Or scrape the old dry bread (has to be pretty stale - it is very hard to do to fresh bread) with a fork if you don't have a grater to hand. Doesn't do a great job, but is good enough at a squeeze.

    Let the bread dry out and rub between your hands.

    I've tried using a grater but I end up with a doughy mess :sad: Perhaps the fork method would work better.

    Its the way I still make breadcrumbs for my homemade stuffing. This way I can have coarse and fine breadcrumbs.

    Would this method be suitable to make breadcrumbs for a treacle tart?

    Yes.
    This method works better with stale bread so let it dry out in the bowl before you start.

    The bread needs to be really stale and dry to do this!;)
