How do do ladies' stuff cheaper

One for us girls... please share your tips on saving money on the kind of expenses that just add up throughout the month. My only achievement in this area is that I bought an epilator a year ago and so have cut my shaving/waxing spend to zero. I'm not what you'd call high-maintenance but I do like to make the best of myself with make-up, hair, nice clothes etc etc...

Be a scruff like me?! :D Spend about £100 max on clothes (inc shoes) a year. Never need makeup as I never run out, because I rarely wear it.:o
  • For proper lady stuff, what about Mooncups for your feminine hygiene needs :o ? Has been mentioned elsewhere but I have also bought one recently and think they are fab!

Is a little bit expensive outlay (about £18) but hopefully you should never need to buy anything else

AND its good for the environment!!:T

for those that do shave using a razor, soap/shower gel is every bit as effective (yet half the price) of posh shaving foams. baby oil is supposed to leave your pins silky smooth if you use it as a shaving foam, which also doubles as a form of moisturiser

consider investing in a mooncup (search the forum, there are loads of threads), or buy towels/tampons when they are special offer. do you really need the big brands, when the shops own does exactly the same? (boots own brand are often on 3 for 2)

make a point of using up all the smellies you've received as gifts over the years. ive being doing this for the past 12 months, and the only toiletries ive had to buy have been shampoo, toothpaste and tampons. ive saved myself a small fortune on shower gel, bubble bath and soap!

drink plenty of water for clear, glowing skin - its much cheaper than all those expensive lotions and potions out there.

keep nail varnish in the fridge to make it last longer and stop it going gloopy.

dont buy expensive eye brightening drops - two teaspoons kept in the fridge and held over your eyes for a minute or two will do exactly the same job.

thats all i can think of for now, will come back if i think of more

Definitely check out the Boots thread on the Grabbit board. Topping up your phone at Boots is a great way to get bonus points or free vouchers. The weekend they had both triple points AND £5 skincare vouchers I did two top ups of £10 and got 240 points plus two £5 vouchers!

Yves Rocher do a £5 cashback through Quidco; order a small amount and get some makeup or skincare for nothing (you also get a free gift). There are discount codes floating around.

Try writing some product reviews for Beauty Counter Direct if you have an account with them. http://www.beautycounterdirect.co.uk/ I did about four reviews and they sent me a free Hard Candy lipgloss (don't know if lipgloss is your bag though).

Getting a friend to dye your hair is an obvious one. I used to do this before I went natural. Some people go to colleges for cheep haircuts but I've never figured out where to go so can't help there.

Always ask for free samples at cosmetics counters. Write to Avon and ask them if they can recommend some skincare products for your type. I did this and got three small lipsticks, a couple of tiny perfumes and some moisturiser samples.

Boots vouchers through Pigsback if you're not already getting them.

    Good thread by the way.

  • for my ladies towels my mum used to sign up for loads of offers for you to try their products and they usually come with money off vouchers in them too, so mum gives them all to me (she has had an historectomy sp?) so i always have a drawer full here :)

Or instead of the mooncup you can switch to using depo as a contraceptive and not get periods (or just very light ones) at all. It's not for everyone but it's saved me a fortune in tampons.

I go to my local beauty college every month to have my roots touched up and a trim and blow dry. All for the princely sum of £10. Sometimes I treat myself to Easi-Mesh foils for a bit of variety. That sets me back £15 (includes cut & blow dry).

I buy my face makeup on holiday as it's usually cheaper. I've moved to supermarket brands for tampons as they are a 1/3rd of the price of leading brands and do the job just as well. I buy Tesco clear deodrant 79p instead of RG Crystal (£2.49). I bought 4 Max Factor nail polishes for £1 in local catalogue clearance shop. Also had some lipsticks on same offer. I get my OH to buy my perfume for Xmas and I get my cleansing wipes with Boots free £5 vouchers.
