So annoyed - losing a day's wages

Just need to vent my annoyance - had an argument with OH last night and it didn't get resolved before going to bed. So I didn't sleep and this morning had a really bad headache and eyes are a bit puffy to say the least. I decided to call in a sickie.

Now I feel awful as I am hourly paid and will lose a day's wages but did not think about that at the time when I decided to call my boss. I was too wrapped up in the argument to think beyond that. Having had the morning to think, I feel terrible. I need the money to get me out of debt. And besides that, OH got up went off to work and the issue has been left hanging, never to be reolved.

OH has a habit of changing the subject and diverting the issue to something else and we end up arguing about things that are not even important! And the original issue never gets resolved. On going saga...

I should have just gone in and sat quietly at my desk and taken a day's wages. How stupid was my decision?

Thanks for reading this.

Wasn't stupid at all, if you had of gone in would you have done anything productive?

Do you get on well with your manager?

when i was sick and broke my old manager would put it in the system as holiday so i would still be paid.

do you think your manager would do that if you explained you were very stressed and didn't want to come into work when you knew you would get nothing done? :grouphug:

  • Wonder_Girl makes a good point there - could you ask your manager to record it as emergency holiday rather than sick leave? That way you'd save face (you could say that although you were sick, you'd rather take a days hol than lose pay) and get paid - providing you have hol days left.

Whatever the outcome, don't beat yourself up about this (((hugs))). I think many can identify with you!

Ridiculous, You should of gone into work and eventually you would of started to think clearer and also think about other stuff, but now your dwelling on the thought, and also losing money, you should always leave work in the workplace and dont bring homelife into the workplace, but now you have mixed the two together and that can be quite a bad concoction.

    Hi RKH

Don't beat yourself up about it – yes, you may need the money to get out of debt, but your health [and happiness] is more important. Perhaps you could use the rest of today to make money on Quidco or other cashback sites? Or list stuff to sell on eBay or Amazon? That way you'll feel like you're earning while in the comfort of your own home.

When anything 'bad' happens, I just chalk it up to experience and move on. Dwelling on it will not help matters and believe me, tomorrow, this will look trivial. I'm not trying to make light of the situation here, but more to remind you that everyone has a bad day once in a while and that's all it is – ONE bad day.

Chin up... tomorrow's another day. ;)

    B x

    That was a bit harsh!

Sometimes things happen that you can't help but dwell on. Now that it's done I wouldn't thnk about it. Why not use your time to put some stuff on e bay to make some extra money.

EDIT : I have just noticed I am not the only one to suggest ebaying and stuff.... Great minds think alike.
  • By the way I hope you and your OH make up soon

Quincy, I ALWAYS keep work separate from home. Today is a one-off. And I ALWAYS keep my work up to date so that should I get knocked over by a bus, my boss knows exactly where he needs to start and what he needs to do. And hey, there's no need to be rude and unpleasant to others. Just get off your high horse - you are entitled to your opinions but so is everyone else!

To everyone else, thanks for your support. I have utilised the time to go through my bank statements to reclaim my charges, made a couple of calls (1 to Social Services as I look after my mother's affairs and the other to DWP as I 'lost' my mother's last pension credit giro). So it has not been an entirely useless day. I now need to make a couple more calls, both to financial instituitons. But it still deosn't make up for lost wages. As you said, it happens and I need to move on. Hopefully when OH gets home from work, we can sort things out, or at least come to some resolution. Perhaps this has been more of a reflection day - I think I needed a day on my own to put things into perspective.

    Thanks.
