Stains on silk

Has anyone any ideas how to shift stains on silk?
It's an item I'm not scared of washing - it's been washed oodles of times and is still going strong.
Most stain removers say don't use on silk but I tried one - no affect on the fabric, and no effect on the stain either :(
Cheers!

    What sort of stain?

How are you usually washing it?

    Coloured or white silk?

I didn't want to say in case you all thought I might be an axe murderer :)
    It's blood spots.
I usually stick it in the washer on a cool wash - tempted to go higher on that if I can't shift the stains as a last resort.
It's pale green - have thought of trying to dye it as well :)

Don't use hot water or a high temperature wash. You will cook the blood and fix it in. I have found spit quite good as a pre-treatment for removing blood stains (contains enzymes). I have heard salt water recommended as a way of removing blood too though I haven't tried it. I have used a dab of vodka on a cloth to get stains out of a dry clean only satin dress but they weren't blood stains so I don't know whether that would work.

the best way to get blood out of any fabric is to rinse in cold water when the blood is fresh, it runs out much easier then. after that it is more difficult, especially in something as delicate as silk. I suggest asking your local dry cleaner if there is anytihng they can suggest - not very OS though I;m afraid :(

If it's blood then you should simply soak it overnight in a solution of bio laundry powder; then wash as usual.

    Thanks guys.
I'd forgotten the old salt water trick.
Still experimenting with the suggestions - will let you know if anything works.
